HIBERNIAN winger Alan O'Brien was awaiting news yesterday to determine whether he requires knee surgery.
The 23-year-old Irishman has been sidelined for a month after picking up the injury in the Premier League draw at Inverness last month.
Scans have so far failed to identify the cause of the problem, which appears to clear up after rest but quickl
y returns whenever the former Newcastle player tries to run.
The club were hoping a specialist could shed light on the injury, with assistant manager Donald Park saying: "We need to get it cleared up. Alan is being driven crazy by being sidelined.
"It's a great shame because Alan had made a very good start to the season, he was starting to blossom, his confidence was rising and he was showing the fans what he was all about."
Meanwhile, Park revealed he was optimistic Colin Nish would be fit to face Rangers at Easter Road on Sunday, although the striker was still receiving treatment on the ankle he injured in Saturday's win against Hamilton.
Park said: "There's still a bit of swelling but the injury has been improving, which is good news.
"We'll have to wait and see, but I'm optimistic he'll be ready.
"Colin is an important player for us. He has done very well since he came to the club, he adds a different dimension and presents a target for us up front."
