HIBERNIAN have signed 20-year-old forward Steve Pinau from Serie A side Genoa on a one-year loan deal.
Pinau recently signed a five-year contract with the Italian club after spending four years coming through the ranks at AS Monaco, where he appeared for the first team towards the end of last season.

Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen told the club's of
ficial website, www.hibs.co.uk, of his delight at his fifth signing of the summer. He said: "Our supporters have already had a glimpse of Steve in our pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic, and I'm sure they will appreciate that he is a quick and exciting forward.

"We are delighted to have such a highly rated player at Hibernian for the season."

Agreement has been reached between the clubs and with the player and international clearance is awaited. Pinau is the fifth summer recruit at Easter Road following the arrivals of David van Zanten, Joe Keenan, Steven Thicot and Fabian Yantorno.

Paatelainen added: "It is always a good sign when a big club like Genoa signs you on a five-year contract from someone like Monaco. He broke into the Monaco first team towards the end of last season and in fact I went over there to watch him for myself but they were keen to keep him.

"Then he signed for Genoa and I heard that they would consider sending him out on loan for a year. Fortunately we managed to get him and I think that he will be a great addition to our squad.

"He may be a young player but he has already proved that he can score a lot of goals – he already has in a relatively short career."

This young guy may turn out to be ok. He has showed a bit of promise in the 2 half games he got in pre-season. However, the Hibs really need a proper striker and this should not be the replacement for Benji. They need a Scott McDonald type to put away chances in the box. Who else will score?

Fletcher - sometimes, maybe 12 a season
Nish - rarely
O'Brien - never
Morais - twice a season maybe
Shiels - now in midfield but may will get about 8 in the season
Zemmama - about 6

Its not enough. The need is for an 18 goals a season man at least.

so comments are not allowed on the article re the Cuellar sale?
How do you feel selling your best player to a 'bigger' club?
No pity for you!
Sad losing a quality player from the SPL though.
Wanna buy Jones?

Rangers will be looking for a replacement. Who better then than our own "Player of the year" Chris Hogg.

The Hogglovers can relax. I've got more chance than him. In fact, my dog has more chance than him and she's not really that good.

Hope this guy can score goals,

We certainly need somebody who can score goals, Nish started really well, whats going on there???, Shiels fighting with Fletcher on the park is not a good sign....

#1. This guy has a decent pedigree (Monaco, Genoa), certainly better than Mixu's other signings (Gretna , St.Mirren, etc) and on the face of it, getting this guy on loan looks to be a bit of a coup. Time will tell of course - but why do you write him off on the basis of two half games where he barely knows his team mates?

To get the fans really wetting themselves lets get Riordan to play along side him

Well, it would seem he has pedigree right enough. It may take bit of time for him to settl properly, but what i just cant understand is, why Mixu is acting like such an elmer over Benji. I heard he told Gareth Evans to GTF at training, but is that really reason enough to bin a guy???

You can't build a team around loan deals, unless there is an option to take him on a permanent basis at the end of it.

#5 - I dont understand the mentality of people having issues with signing people from the likes of Gretna or St Mirren. Lets face it Celtic and Rangers feed off the likes of Hearts, Hibs, Dundee Utd etc and of course we now have Aston Villa plundering Rangers for Cuellar, signing players from smaller clubs is all part and parcel of football.

IMO Martin Canning looks like a decent signing and Yantorno was being raved about this time last season. Hopefully he can recapture this form once he is fully fit. Or there is Andy Dorman at St Mirren for example a right good player and attracting interest from the English Championship so he cant be that bad a player.

#5 Scoop

My post #1 did not write him off. On the contrary it says he shows a bit of promise. However, at this stage Hibs need a proven goalscorer. This guy's bio lists him as a midfield player.

#10 he scored 3 times for France in the 2007 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship qualification. Could have scored from midfield of course....

#11 no he didn't, he only scored 2 in the 2007 UEFA Under-19 qualifiers. He got the third goal in a 3-0 win in injury time against Finland and scored the first in a 4-2 win against Malta.

#11 I take it back, he got one in the elite qualification too!

he sounds like he could maybe do a job, although is pretty young and inexperienced.

I wonder if he'll do better than the other Monaco youth who was at Hibs last season?
