Treble for Johnston

SCOTTISH trainer Mark Johnston fittingly trained the first two home in last night's £35,000 Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton Park, with punters getting it spot-on as 11-8 favourite Captain Webb beat his stablemate Love Galore (6-1) by three lengths.

Meeriss made the early running, but unhappy with the steady pace, jockey Greg Fairley soon sent Captain Webb into the lead, and produced a fine effort from the front to fend off the challenges of Love Galore and Michael Jarvis' Bold Choice, a 5-2 chance.

Johnston, who had already bagged the William Wallace Handicap with 9-2 shot Opus Maximus, then went on to complete a sparkling treble by taking the main supporting race – the Braveheart Handicap – with Eradicate.

All eyes were on Alan Swinbank's mare Turbo Linn, an outstanding performer in National Hunt bumpers and on the Flat last season, but although she was sent off the 9-4 favourite, she had no answer for Eradicate (5-2), who wrapped up a Johnston hat-trick.
