INVERNESS Caledonian Thistle have confirmed the signing of Stoke City striker Adam Rooney on a three-year contract.
The 21-year-old, who was given permission to link up with the club during pre-season, goes straight into the squad for today's Clydesdale Bank Premier League match against Hamilton Academical. Inverness were thought to want a loan move for the playe
r, but Stoke held out for a £50,000 fee, which could rise to £75,000. The deal also includes a sell-on clause which could benefit Stoke.
Inverness manager Craig Brewster said: "I'm delighted to have finally secured Adam after a patient wait to get the deal done. He looked impressive for us during the Denmark pre-season trip and I'm confident he will do well over the duration of his deal."
Billy Reid insists his Hamilton side will not settle for a draw at Inverness as they look to build on
the convincing 3-1 win over Dundee United which put them top of the table after the first round of SPL fixtures.
"We put a lot into the game, it was a high-energy game, both teams play that way," said Reid. "But our fitness levels are really good, as we showed on Monday.
"The boys are full of enthusiasm and have points to prove. One thing I can guarantee is that there will be no lack of trying on our part this season.
"And we are not going out to play for a point. We will try to win, as we will do in every game this season."
