Republicans warned over incendiary racial slurs by own adviser

AN ADVISER to John McCain has accused the Republican presidential candidate of "sowing the seeds of hatred and division" at his increasingly frenzied campaign rallies.
Black Congressman John Lewis, a Democrat, who was recruited to advise the McCain campaign on race issues, hit out at the growing controversy over racial chants and shouts of "kill him" directed at Mr Obama that are now a regular feature at Republican election events.

He compared the rhetoric of some supporters to the race-baiting of former Alabama governor George Wallace, which fomented the 1963 bombing of Birmingham's 16th Street Baptist Church. Four black girls died in the blast, which was linked to the Ku Klux Klan.

Accusations by Democrats that the Republicans are playing the race card have reached boiling point, and Mr Lewis has touched a raw nerve in America's psyche, where memories of race violence and political assassination are never far below the surface.

The last lynching of a black man by whites occurred in 1981, and all Americans remember that the country's most famous black leader, Martin Luther King, was assassinated in 1968.

Mr Lewis said: "Senator McCain and Governor Palin are playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all.

"Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on a Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama."

The comments come amid criticism that the Republican candidates are not doing enough to discourage racial slurs on the campaign trail.

Mr McCain hit back at his adviser, whom he once described as "one of the wisest men I know". He said: "Mr Lewis's statement was a character attack against Governor Palin and me that is shocking and beyond the pale."

The McCain campaign insists it does not condone racist taunts at its rallies, but some say Mrs Palin provoked outrage by characterising Obama at her rallies as a man who "palled around with terrorists", a reference to his association with former 1960s terrorist Bill Ayers, now a Chicago University professor.

However, Bill McPherson, a Washington political analyst, said: "Sarah Palin is stirring it up with these insinuations. They (the McCain campaign] have the responsibility to tone down the hatred and venom."

On Friday, a woman at a rally in Lakeville, Minnesota, said she did not trust Mr Obama because "he's an Arab", a comment Mr McCain quickly condemned.

Leading an invocation prior to a rally the following day in Davenport, Iowa, priest Arnold Conrad told the crowd that it was the duty of Christians to support Mr McCain.

He said: "There are millions of people around this world praying to their god, whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah, that (Mr McCain's] opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they're going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens."

Despite this, Mr Obama is enjoying healthy leads in all the key swing states, with a widening polling gap on Mr McCain.

Adding to the Arizona senator's woes is the conclusion of the investigation into Troopergate in Alaska that found Governor Palin was guilty of improper interference in trying to engineer the sacking of a state trooper who had divorced from her sister.

Dudes ,

Back in 2004 the fanatical polarized GOP supporters Launched personal attacks constantly on John Kerry. The "Swift Boat People" . Kerry waited too long to respond.

In 2008 The fanatical polarized are using the same tactics on Sen. Obama. But its not working. Obama responds with lightning speed .

Once bitten twice shy .. say the voters.

Even the Britney Spears type Bimbo ..Palin is fast loosing steam and her credibility is shot.

McCian the 71 year old geriatic, stumbles around the stage regurgating his Vietman War stories .. A WAR we LOST. While Palin does most of the personal attacking on Sen. Obama.

One of the masses of the fanatical polarized GOP supporters said, on TV at a McCain "Town Hall" meeting . She said Obama was an Arab . I mean how stupid are these rabid GOP supporters . Another yelled "Off with his Head", yet another yelled "Obama is a Terrorist"

All this from the GOP supporters, while our country is imploding financially and military.

Give me a break..

Adios

McCain / Palin have been appealing to the lowest form of voter they have in their arsenal: stupid, racist, violent, and deranged. Palin's been stirring up crowds all week and getting cries from the crowd like "kill him"; "terrorist"; "bomb Obama"; etc. One of the nutters is even being sought out by the feds as a possible threat. Given this country's past history, there is no way McCain can say he is either unaware of the possiblity of violence or innocent of inciting it. If you are a racist, you are a Repubilcan. From the comments made by crowd members going into these rallies recorded by MSNBC, these nutjobs were wound pretty tight: Obama... 'he's a terrorist'; 'he's dangerous'; 'he's a Muslim'; 'he's an Arab'; .. and so on.

McCain has no shame, and deserves to lose. That goes for the rest of the GOP.

THis race card will be very divisive and for one poster to say that the Obamas are racist is sheer lunacy. Is that poster a drug-addict or alcoholic or recent escapee from the lunatic asylum?

Scratch the surface of ANY Repubican and you will find a rampant racist, no matter how vociferous they are in their denials.

As for their political conterparts here in the USA,
the McCain camp has made a series of misjudgements and misperceptions has have already cost them the presidency. I doubt if anything can save them now.

The game is really over, as we are all witnessing. The fear-mongering, veiled racism,
flag-waving, demonization and general appeal to our
lesser selves has resulted in defeat for the McCain
camp. So it goes . . . . "what goes around," etc.

I believe, this time, that the majority of Americans have made up their minds, and there is nothing any of the 2 parties can say that will change their minds.

With no "Commander in chief" leading the republican cause, they have lost the "Patriotic" vote. With McCain as the option and Palin as the "Worst case scenario" there is little danger of the majority of Americans voting for them. The world wide ridicule would simply be too much.

And his popularity has of course plummeted over the last 4 years aiding Obama's rise in status. I don't believe there's anything McCain can do to repair the damage that Bush has done. McCain's physical frail condition is also detrimental to a republican victory.

With deomcrats controlling congress and the WH, higher taxes are a sure thing. Don't be surprised if those looking for change don't balk at more taxes. It isn't a crime to expose the relationships Obama has (not had) with terrorists and criminals. This is long overdue. It should have all come out during the primary, but the msm was, and is, so busy kissing up to Obama that they have failed to do their job.

A small handful of angry voters, or Democratic plants, we'll never know, at Republican rallies does not mean that riots ar imminent. On the contrary, Obama's followers are the ones who have promised riots if he doesn't win.

The Obama campaign is putting out all this nonsense about McCain and Palin because what they are saying is true and Obama is desperately trying to make voters beleive it is not true.

Here are typical Obama suporters in Philadelphia last week. This is exactly the same stuff, and the same words, they used against Hillary Clinton. The whole campaign is disgusting and the msm for the most part ignores it.

What you see with Obama is not what you get. And what yo see in the major media is not the truth. You have to look really hard to find any trace of that, and "journalists" don't bother. Their corporate masters are all in the tank for Obama, the corprate candidate.

In the last few days, the polls have tightened. Obama's "lead" has not grown. In the last week, Obama's negatives went up by 10 points and McCain shaved four points off Obama's "lead". The polls, however, are totally slanted in favor of Obama. The Gallup daily tracking poll usually has a hang-up rate of about 40%-50%. Currently it's running at about 80%. Most people don't want to say anything about their preference here, because they don't want to be called racist, not to mention that the questions are obviously phrased to get a positive result for Obama. So who is actually participating? Who knows, but it's not good polling.

But Ayers has made achievements in his life outside the criminal acts of his youth. and he did not kill anybody either. you say the Democrats are the tax & spend party. but in the 1990's when Republicans controlled house & Senate (1995-2000) the growth rate in government spending was slightly higher than the growth rate when democrats controlled congress (1990-1994). and when republicans expanded their control in 2000 election by taking the white house that is when government spending really took off. Today we're being told that our federal government's deficit spending in 2009 will likely be $2 trillion. In 2003 the total debt of our society including government debt, personal debt & business debt was about 35% of our gdp. that was an all-time high, we surpassed the 1933 record in 2003. and we've been piling on the debt like crazy since 2003. Under republican leadership our economy runs on debt. Now we're being told that total debt from all sources is to be 68% of our gdp.

that is likely a very important comment that Benazir Bhutto made. I believe she said that in a BBC interview. the interview was broadcast and then I believe deleted from the archives of BBC. and not long later she was murdered, I think that's all correct. this is the way things normally work. Then Pakistan had some changes in their government and their soldiers began to shoot at US soldiers who invaded their country. Then they had the terrible terror bombing where something like 100 people were killed. The Pakistanis are supposed to believe that AlQuada randomly killed 100 Pakistanis because they are anti-American.

there were reports years ago in arabic media that Bin Laden died. and there is a mountain of evidence that some of the video/audio recordings released in the last few years of Bin Laden are not really Bin Laden. and an Abu Dubai newspaper reported that a CIA agent met with Bin Laden in summer of 2001 in an Abu Dubai hospital when Bin Laden was a patient.

Bin Laden is a boogey-man. The FBI said there is no evidence that he was involved in the september 11'th events.

As you astutely disclosed, Obama is both a "corporate candidate" as well as a terrorist sympathizer.

This is a daunting task for any candidate, especially a black one.

I would like to hear more about this "corporate- terrorism" linkage you speak of with respect to Obama.

The fact that the worlds' reporting is entirely ignorant of the facts of the matter most certainly points to a cover-up of global proportions.

Adding McCain's endorsement of Obama as a suitable presidential candidate at a rally last week certainly points to a much larger corporate conspiracy that I was aware of.

Obama is smeared as a terror-sympathizer because he had political associations with Ayers in Chicago. But Ayers worked on projects to improve education in Chicago. Those who supported Ayers' efforts included both republicans and democrats. But Obama is singled out and said to be a terror-sympathizer for helping Ayers with his project.

Why does McCain accept financial donations from people who also donated to Ayers? And then VP candidate Palin says openly that Obama associated with terrorists. Why are McCain supporters also openly associating with terrorists? Or, perhaps these accusations that Obama is a terrorist-sympathizer are just bunk.

southerngent,

republicans controlled white house, senate & house from january 2001 to january 2007. and during that time government spending took off at a very rapid rate of expansion. In 2001 alone they almost doubled spending on the department of education. and with the republican legislation of 'no child left behind' they increased the federal government's power over the so-called public schools all over the nation. How can anyone trust a liar? and the hard-cold facts about republicans are that they have lied to us for decades as to their nature.

as for your saying that at least republicans don't raise taxes, that is silly. Republicans raised the payroll tax back in 1986 by about 35%. that tax is paid by all workers making less than $80,000 a year. and the financing of spending by debt as the republicans so like to do is worse than paying for the spending by direct taxation as financing the system through debt only increases the raw costs (interest expense) and postpones when the bill must be paid.

If you look at the Bloomberg link I put up in #50, then you'll see that they're talking about a $2 trillion federal spending deficit in 2009. that would be 12.5% of our gdp and something over 35% of all federal government spending. this is an insane level of debt.

I don't think that either party really can escape blame for this situation. a problem is that we have no prominent leaders even willing to think about doing anything about this situation. The level of debt is only now beginning to spiral upwards. We're creating for ourselves nothing but war and destruction. Blaming the other party and not proposing any options to address the situation just doesn't work.

here's a story that demonstrates how things work.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/10/10/iraq.curveball/index.html

Remember about 6 years ago Colin Powell gave a presentation at the UN where he told the whole world about how dangerous Iraq was due to it manufacturing WMD's? It appears in hindsight that Powell lied. this is how things work. The big events that we're shown on tv and that become the reality for many people are frequently fabrications or false portrayals.

To compound things, it is difficult to get at the truth. If a person speaks too much truth, then there can be negative consequences. Remember, the Patriot Act has provisions so that government can tell any journalist not to speak about what they're told not to speak about. and if the journalist violates this order and does stories about subjects that are off-limits, then the journalist can be arrested secretly, put on trial in secret courts and detained permanently in secret jails.

we're already in a fascist period. its just that many people are slow to realize or are deceived.

Nobody is calling Obama a terrorist or a terrorist-sympathizer. They are saying that he has lied about his relationship with Ayers and that having any relationship at all with someone with a background like Ayers' is not a good thing for a presidential candidate. Obama says that he didn't know about Ayers' background, but Obama supposedly graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Political Science. It definitely brings up questions about his judgement.

Here is a report from CNN regarding the relationship between Ayers and Obama.

#57 I think you misunderstood what I was saying.

McCain is stating that HE KNOWS how to catch OBL, but he won't tell anyone how to do it unless he's elected. If he is witholding vital information isn't this a type of blackmail? I totally agree that he is
being overlooked on purpose or protected, but I also think that he may well be dead. At any rate - he's handy to trot out once in a while to remind us of 9/11.

#58 we're already in a fascist period. its just that many people are slow to realize or are deceived.

We've been in one for several years now - It started in 2000.

Here is what I saw

- the twin towers get hit and I hear Bush on his megaphone telling New Yorkers and the world that he and his army are going after the people who carried out this brutal attack.

I was instantly interested in what he was saying because here was the US President saying he was going to get the terrorist barstrds..Yes I thought, its good that Bin Laden is going pay for this attack with is useless life.

THEN - From left field Bin Laden is placed on the back burner and Iraq is the main focus..

Hang on a second I thought, how can this be? What the heck does Iraq have to do with the twin towers I thought - ofcourse the answer was nothing! Iraq was a problem, I knew that, but so to was North Korea, it still is. It didnt make sense that Bin Laden was forgotten about.

Then it began to unfold, Rumsfeld, Cheyne and Haliburton. No way I thought - these people have manufactured a war in order to obtain orders for weapons. So then I began thinking, was it just coincidence that the twin towers were hit when they were, or was there something more sinister happening?

I ignored the sinister thoughts, surely there is no way that the Americans (the current regime and their neo con tendencies) would have arranged for an attack on themeselves. Carried out by sad men who actually thought they were on a secret mission for Allah, but whose bosses knew they were doing it for alterior motives $$$$$$$$$$$$

Now some 7 years later and Bin Laden still hasnt been caught I need to ask why! Are they secretly avoiding him because he was involved in the attack along with the oval office, thus he MUST remain hands off at all costs? Or are they purposely avoiding the opportunity to catch him because they need to prolong the war for as long as they can?

it must be one or the other, because there is no way the American war machine cannot find this guy....

BillEngland of 63:

Obama says that when he first met Ayers and went to a fund-raising event at Ayers' house that he did not know of Ayers' criminal past. I don't think that Obama is stupid for not knowing this.

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/oct/08/campos-mccains-extremist/

here's an interesting article on the subject. Nobody died due to Ayers' criminal acts. But lots of people die unjustly due to US policy over a very long period of time.

Americans seem to define terrorism as being what the tv says is terrorism. this is a dysfunctional way of looking at things.

#63-billengland- obama is a complete idiot!!! Of course he knew about ayers (and most likely his comments on sept 11th), acorns "register voting" practices, and his pastors views of whitey.

BTW- Has the media reported that at obamas rallies there have been some who called for the stoning to death of Palin?????? I guess if that was reported it would seem like radical muslims support obama!!

Quite a bit of double standard in the media!!!

You are correct - people watch TV and just accept that terrorism is what the journalists and the politicians tell them it is - most are to busy with their own lives or they simply dont care that George Bush is every bit a terrorist as Bin Laden, they just dispense their war mongering in a different manner, but the underlying priciples are the same....

BillEngland,

Ayers committed crimes & served his time. It doesn't do any good to focus on him. But if we are to focus on him, as I made clear above, both republicans and democrats associated with Ayers. Some republicans who gave lots of money to Ayers' charities also donated to McCain's campaign. and yet we have this big act about how Obama pals around with terrorists. the whole thing is ridiculous and done to distract us from real issues.

From around 1992 to 2003 the US prevented basic medicines, baby food, baby formula and many other products from being exported from anywhere to Iraq. and one million children died from this policy. Isn't this terrorism? And shouldn't we blame the people who were behind it. John McCain associates with the people who were behind it. For that matter so does Barack Obama. shouldn't they both be blamed?

it now seems likely that Obama will win in a landslide. Karl Rove even said on a blog that Obama would win if the election was held today.

here's a Fox news story saying that Israel had prior knowledge of the september 11'th events.

http://www.evtv1.com/player.aspx?itemnum=7036

Let me explain - reality is something that is fabricated by the 6 corporations that own the mass media. Israel did have prior knowledge. So did 9 other national governments other than the US. Newspaper articles around the world have documented this. The US had prior knowledge too.

but none of this is part of reality because it is not in the story-line that gets repeated over & over & over again for us to focus on.

today's reality is that we must make our tax revenue available to certain rich people or else the global economy will implode. we hear that incessantly on tv, and so that is reality. in fact all contrary points of view are by definition false.

This article by Chris Stephen in New York is easily the best example of yellow journalism and the stirring of the racial-hatred pot I've read.

Stephen has written sixteen paragraphs of inflammatory sensationalism in an effort to raise rather than lower the hysterical pitch of this Presidential campaign.

Chris Stephen fails to point out that McCain was betrayed by a black Democratic Congressman named John Lewis who was perfectly willing to take McCain's money and then turn on him at a critical point in the campaign.

What does this betrayal say about Lewis? Why does Chris Stephen not decry the fact that McCain trusted a black Democratic Congressman to provide him with advice, but Lewis is an untrustworthy turncoat?

All readers should "consider the source" in reading future articles by Chris Stephen. He has thoroughly discredited himself as impartial political commentator.

Seems kind of funny to me. If Ayers is a terrorist, and everyone knows this to be "true", how is it that he's still openly walking the streets?,let alone teaching and serving on committees?

I was interested in knowing who else served with Obama. I found a few of them in a Chicago Tribune Article:
Stanley Ikenberry, former president of the University of Illinois; Arnold Weber, former president of Northwestern University and assistant secretary of labor in the Nixon administration; Scott Smith, then publisher of the Chicago Tribune; venture capitalist Edward Bottum; John McCarter, president of the Field Museum; Patricia Albjerg Graham, former dean of the Harvard University Graduate School of Journalism, and a host of other mainstream folks.
“The whole idea of it being radical when it was this tie of blue-chip, white-collar, CEOs and civic leaders is just ridiculous,” said the foundation’s former development director, Marianne Philbin.
(The Chicago Tribune, by the way, is a conservative newspaper. It has never endorsed a Democrat for president in its entire history.)
The conclusion?
This attack is false, but it’s more than that – it’s malicious. It unfairly tars not just Obama, but all the other prominent, well-respected Chicagoans who also volunteered their time to the foundation. They came from all walks of life and all political backgrounds, and there’s ample evidence their mission was nothing more than improving ailing public schools in Chicago. Yet in the heat of a political campaign they have been accused of financing radicalism.

Watch McCain try to claim credit for today's market surge - and then revert to more psychotic personal attacks on "that one" later in the week.

I'm itching to see the new, improved McCain this Wed. night, especially the much-touted "EYE CONTACT COMPETITION."

I say that he can't look Obama in the ey for more than a half-second; any bets ? (PEEKING doesn't count !)

Hope he can find his fuzzy slippers on stage this time !

Obama is by definition, not Black. He is 50% White,43.75% Arab, and 6.25% Black. In law he needs to be 12.5% Black to be classified thus.
Racism? He was a member of Jeremiah White's church for over 20years.The Vision statement of this church, using words from Dr James Cone, includes the following: "Christianity and Whiteness are opposites".Not racist?
This gentleman's birth certificate is in dispute also. Why is it that a "CERTIFIED EMBOSSED,and SIGNED" has not been produced? We can rant at one another all day,but unless answers are forthcoming on several issues to do with Obama, the USA may very well get a president who may be their last!
