NEW laws designed to crack down on drivers who abuse the rules on disabled parking spaces were backed in principle by the Scottish Government yesterday.
A Labour MSP, Jackie Baillie, is trying to introduce legislation that would result in able-bodied drivers who park in disabled bays being fined up to £60.

OK
As long as disabled drivers who park in other spots are also fined.

Why are no comments allowed on the Eric Joyce story ?
He brought the ban on himself by accumulating points on his driving licence.

Well, they could start by ensuring that all the disabled spaces conform to the regulations in respect of road markings, positioning and signage.

#3, Correct. These 'disabled drivers parking spaces', subject of Jackie the Hutt's incoherent Bill, are the unlawfully-marked 'informal or courtesy' spaces that Das Kooncil charges mug-punters £100 a go for. As Direktor of City Chaos, Andrew Holmes (now safely retired to Perthshire) was forced to admit, they're not worth the paint on the road. The Cooncil doesn't even know how many there are. Even if the Cooncil is now forced to 'formalise' each one(by individual Traffic Order)any Blue Badge Holder will be able to use them.

"OK

Thats a joke is it not? Where I live there are FOUR Public Disabled parking spaces for over 400 disabled drivers. While they are at it they should also fine the selfish, arrogant, and uncaring drivers of luxury limos and 4x4's who park in the disabled bays at Supermarkets because the spaces are wider. Its impossible to get a wheelchair out of the car in a standard bay.

Far too many times I have had to drive away from our Local TESCO's because most of the disabled bays ate taken up by non disabled drivers vehicles. The same applies to disabled bays in hospitals, all too often I cannot get a space because contractors vans, delivery vehicles, luxury cars and 4x4's are parked in them. I've seen me waiting upwards of two hours to get a space and this abuse of disabled parking bays should be punished with £1,000 fine as the owners can well aford it.

I wouldlike these drivers to consider this statement "You have taken a disabled bay, will you also take my disability?"

#5 - Do you mean that your local council (social work dept) has issued more than 400 blue badges? There's no obligation on a roads authority to match on-road provision of spaces to issued badges and councils have no powers to allocate any public, on-road space to an individual. Whatever your envious views on those who drive 'luxury limos and 4x4's' (most blue-badged vehicles in George St, Edinburgh fall into that category)Jabba Baillie's been told that her Bill will have no jurisdiction in Supermarkets and private car parks. Ever thought about simply straddling 2 'ordinary' bays to get in and out, rather than being a 'victim'? I've sat on a 'Blue Badge Users Forum' and heard all the hysterical arguments dismissed, usually by wheelchair users themselves.
