RUTH Kelly, the Transport Secretary, is to quit Westminster at the next general election, it emerged last night.
She told Labour supporters of her decision to step down as an MP at a meeting in her Bolton West constituency.

The news emerged as it was revealed that Sir Digby Jones, the trade minister, would be stepping down from the Cabinet in the next reshuffle, which is expected to be announced today.

Sir Digby, a former head of the CBI and a member of the House of Lords, was made a minister soon after Gordon Brown took power as Prime Minister in June last year, even though he was not a member of the Labour Party.

Ms Kelly, an MP since 1997, told the Labour Party conference last month that she was leaving the Cabinet to spend more time with her family.

I'm sure her family will be delighted at this news.

After all theres a good chance they'll see her for 2 weeks solid after the next election, just before she signs up for several lucrative directorships and starts coining it in big-time. Call me a cynic...

Just which companies do you think would employ Ruth Kelly, Vivas?

I can't see that she has much in the way of experience in many things, frankly. And her political career is pretty chequered. Still, she could be a sounding board for other Labour ministers looking at their options for after the next election.

Vote UKIP,

Sensible girl. She's getting out before she and her Nazi Labour Party are ejected for good.

Let's vote UKIP.
