A SCUFFLE broke out at the traditional site of Jesus's burial yesterday when Greek Orthodox and Armenian believers, who fiercely protect their hold over sections of the shrine, traded blows.
Police said a fist-fight broke out after Armenian worshippers yanked a Greek Orthodox cleric away from a tomb in Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the traditional site of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection.

A spokesman said he did not know the cause of the scuffle. Fights are not uncommon among the representatives of Christian sects who jealously guard their rights to parts of the centuries-old church.

"There is always tension there between the different sides," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said. "That's why police were on scene ahead of time to prevent any arguments or disturbances from breaking out."

No injuries were reported but two Armenians were briefly detained.

You couldn't make this stuff up.
Christ would be cringing if he knew he had to spend eternity with these mobs.

All religions should be banned.

If you took religion out of things, half of all wars would probably not have happened

Jesus H Christ, the reporting on this paper is truly dreadful....

Who won the scrap for Christs sakes?

"Who won the scrap for Christs sakes?"

It was a split decision but the Greek Orthodox contingent narrowly took the title after a countback.

Cannot understand this myself. I understood the whole point of Christianity was that the tomb was supposed to empty. So why the fuss for something that it is not actually there?

I think they should convert it to a fast food joint...... they'll get less hassle.

The empty alleged tomb of a preacher dude dead for almost 2,000 years. And homosapiens fight over it.

Man where is the logic here.

Religions are the real cancers of the mind.

The Jews, The Christians, The Muslims etc, all fanatical freaks .

Killing each other in the name of DOG or some freaky prophets, who lived at a time they thought the world was FLAT, and they had no ass paper to clean up with.

And no McDonald's, or AK 47's ,or V8 muscle cars etc.

Every one stunk . no running water no soap. Most people died before 40.

WOW dudes am I glad, I was living then. But they did have shrooms.

Happy BELL's Beach day

The hypocrisy on this thread is truly amazing. Because some of you do not believe as others, "they" are wrong. The fact that you have no proof to back up your claims just as they have no proof to back up theirs makes you just as "wrong". Until there is concrete proof that some form of diety either exists or doesn't exist makes both sides equally WRONG.

Do not be troubled when dead men declare that there is no God! A blind man fom birth may not beleive that the stars are, but they exist none the less. "The carnal man discerneth not the things of God, for they are spiritually discerned." Some men are full of knowledge, yet they do not have wisdom!

A "true" Christian is unlikely to resort to violence, for to call ourselves "Christians" is symbolic of our desire to follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. To wholely confom our lives to His way, not our own. For we must die unto ourselve that Christ may live through us.

Jesus said that sinful men remains in the dark (by choice), for if they come into the light, their sins will be reproved. Yet, they are but blind men, who love the world, just as we loved the world before He brought us to Christ, the living Son of God.

Pray that our Hevenly Father will remove the scales from their eyes, that they might seek HIM!

Pray that human beings remove the scales from their eyes themselves that they may seek the true meaning of humanity....

This reminds me of the line in Dr. Strangelove when president merkin muffley (peter sellers) admonishes russian ambassador de Sadesky and general turgidson who have begun tussling with one another, for their unseemly conduct with the words "Gentlemen, this is the war room!"

"......may not beleive that the stars are, but they exist none the less".

Don't be too sure that they still exist as the light from these stars can take hundreds of years to reach Earth. They could all be black holes by now.

Welcome back Timothy Charles...thought you had snuffed it....the silence was deafening....glad to see I was a bit premature....

I shall have a lovely day planting clematis, mysotis and lemon balm in my garden...in between irritating the Chinese Communist Party plants that are infiltrating this forum...

Salut!

Thank you for your kind words.

The mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral was VERY impressive!

I was in the fifteenth row and got a papal nod although I am not Catholic.

By the way, St. Patrick's is the largest Gothic cathedral in the US of A - Size Queens please note.

Hope you have success with your flowers and plants and I agree with your comment about the Chinese "plants" that infest these forums.

Pax vobiscum et bonne chance dans votre jardinage.

I feel embarassed for followers of the 'prince of peace' every time a story like this is reported (and there are a lot of stories like this - see A.A. Gill's hilarious essay on his visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre).

I've read stories of priests of one sect panhandling (sorry, "collecting offerings from") those waiting to enter and thereon being beaten up by priests of the sect in charge of the door. Similarly, I've read of one crowd setting on another crowd because the second crowd was "sweeping the floor wrong".

Did Spike Milligan write the operating procedures for this place?

20....Thank you Timothy Charles...need to stop digging with my bare hands...my mitts are starting to resemble hedgehog claws...but got a lovely Mahonia just waiting to be popped into the ground..keep the neighbours from spying through the hedge...take their eye out if they get too close...I dont do mass, brings me out in a rash and a cold sweat...and I start foaming at the gob and get all rabid like...so I try to keep my distance..I do like old churches and chapels however....but purely from a historical perspective..I always love to find the sneaky wee pagan dedications that the masons left behind...gives me quite a thrill...

I think the size Queens are the Americans...I had a young american lad deride Glasgow Cathedral once, too small and hey you know "Back home our churches are way bigger than that" he spread his arms fisherman style and grinned proudly....I took great pleasure in informing him that Glasgow Cathedral was built in the 12th century but was not surprised that this did not seem to filter through.....size being all important....sigh!

Personally...I much prefer 'Father Jack' on the comedy programme 'Father Ted'...now thats my kind of priest!
