VOTERS in Lebanon went to the polls peacefully yesterday in a parliamentary election that pits Hezbollah and its allies, backed by Syria and Iran, against an anti-Syrian bloc that has United States and Saudi support.
Before polls closed, the interior minister Ziyad Baroud said turnout had reached 40 per cent.
