Spurious claims give our so-called "compensation culture" an even worse name, and anything that can be done to block them is very welcome.

At present, anyone can raise a court action for anything. The defender can ask for the case to be thrown ou...

This is all well and good. However, in one of the instances mentioned in the article, i.e. the case of children being abused in children's homes, an apology is far from being sufficient. Such homes need to suffer severe penalties, and a financial penalty by way of having to pay compensation is often the only way to drive home the lesson. This is also true of such organisations as the Catholic church who have continued to protect priests that have abused children. An apology is definitely not enough, by any stretch of the imagination.

A bit of sense for a change from the Legally minded.

Time we had some truth and reconciliation in all cases including criminal ones with complaints against Solicitors.

How can a Solicitor not be allowed to apologise for making mistakes.

After all they are only human.

Our Law Society have swept complaints against their Lawyers under their carpets for years lets hope SLCC make a better job.

On second thoughts though the new SLCC are staffed by old staff from, Yes youv'e guessed right "The Law Society"

The people who have swept the complaints under the carpets have transferred over from the Law Society complaints departments to SLCC.

So nothing new and no attempts at moving forward there.

Certainly Mr Fyfe there is room for change and T & R

Simply another way to throw out cases that are not in the legal profession's interest to pursue.

How about also bringing in a panel to stop certain solicitors and firms building up thousands of clients and charging them huge fees knowing their cases will never get anywhere ? I'm sure as an experienced solicitor, you could do a good piece about that one, Mr Fyfe.
