Is it not ironic that the United States, in which public opinion is fond of castigating the United Kingdom as the home of socialised healthcare, should now become overnight the world's home of socialised housing, following its federal government guarantees to Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac, which fund half of America's housing mortgages?
