Tax There is only one way for the Labour Party to win back the hearts and minds of Scots, and the UK as a whole, and that is by raising the tax allowance against earnings/income to a level that makes working worthwhile – eg, £1,000 a month, or £12,000 a year: the minimum cost of mere existence.

Brown loves to tax and will not cut taxes for anyone.

He will introduce some puny tax credits to make people jump through hoops to get their own money back but that is it.

Yesterday, Gordon Brown, by stating New Labour would win the next General Election, has made himself a hostage to fortune, or should that be misfortune.

Unless there is a miraculous turnaround in the economic fortunes of the U.K., Brown, like John Major, will become one of the shortest serving Prime Ministers in history?
