Lesley Riddoch (Opinion, 12 May) claims Labour was "roundly rejected at the ballot box a year ago by Scottish voters". Perhaps it was, but only marginally more so than the SNP. Both parties were, in fact rejected by more than two-thirds of voters.

A similar thing happened in the 1979 General Election when the Conservative Party won power with 43.9 percent of the vote, with one of the lowest turnouts in U.K. political history!

The remaining 56.1 percent of voters rejected the Tories!
