Brown's crusade

George Foulkes (Debate & Opinion, 28 August) says Gordon Brown is on "a crusade to end poverty". Given his thirst for higher taxes, his reckless overspending, his continual burdening of the economy with regulation and his belief in state omnipotence, it is clear he has been on a crusade to end prosperity, and a successful one at that.
