We pay our MSPs such a pittance that they need an extra £30 a day payment to make sure they get enough to eat (your report, 26 June). I wish I had £30 a day to spend on food. I wish I had their salary as well. Is there no end to this "nose in the trough" mentality?

British "democracy" differs from that of Zimbabwe only in degree. The priniciple is the same - absolute rule by an elite group. What kind of democratic society allows its legislators to set their own conditions of service, incuding salary levels?
