It is very easy for Paul Stollard (Debate & Opinion, 9 October) to take issue with Lesley Riddoch for "mocking" health and safety (Debate & Opinion, 6 October). However, I feel that he has missed the point somewhat.
Undoubtedly, health and safety is a very important issue in many instances, but he should come and speak to people in the real world and see how it affects them. This was the point Lesley Riddoch was trying to make after hearing about the day-to-day experiences of people at the Scottish MND Association AGM.

It really does beggar belief when you hear of so many people who have had their quality of life blighted by the imposition of seemingly ludicrous health and safety rules. Where is the danger in washing someone's hair?

The Health and Safety Executive does well to look after the health of our workforce, but who will look after the quality of life of terminally ill people?
