Measure of confusion
Since we are forever being told how much easier are metric measures than the imperial system, why is the stupendous development on Edinburgh's former Royal Infirmary site called Quartermile instead of Two-Fifths of a Kilometre, or even 0.4km?
Presumably, it's for the same reason that all official announcements of births to the wives of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown gave the babies' weights in pounds and ounces, the use of which they had made a criminal offence.
