Payment but no purchase
Published Date:
18 July 2008
Over the weekend I tried to purchase tickets to a show in the Fringe via their website (the recommended choice per their box office voice message). On the payment page I entered my debit card details. After submitting the request the message, "Payment Provider Authentication Failed" came up and my basket of items was emptied. The website informed me that I should try again later.
This I did, five more times over the course of Saturday and Sunday, but this time using my credit card instead. I was met with the same message on each occasion.
I checked my bank account via the internet and noticed that the full value of the tickets from the Fringe was taken out of my account. I immediately phoned the credit card company who confirmed the same to me, except payment was taken out five times. I have disputed the charges with the credit card company and asked they be removed. I have no confirmation that tickets have been purchased (by e-mail or post).
Repeated attempts to contact the box office have failed as there is only a recorded message advising the best way to get tickets is via the website. (They must be having a laugh).
It would appear from the Fringe's online message board that this has happened to many others. This is pure incompetence on the Fringe's behalf.
