Pensions opportunity
Published Date:

In the 2008 budget the Chancellor spoke of future pension arrangements where an equities fund would be set up to partly fund state pension benefits.
Surely there now exists an opportunity to establish that fund with the recently acquired banking shares bought at great cost by the taxpayer.
If, as expected, the banks return to profitability, the beneficiaries would be future pensioners and this would amount to a long overdue transfer of wealth from rich to poor and a timely offload of the state's increasing liability.
