Salmon increase illusory

While the increase in salmon catches for 2007 is welcome (your report, 1 October), since 1950, when records began, there have been hardly any netting stations between Greenland, the Faroes and the Scottish coast, which caught the majority of salmon heading for Scottish rivers. In fact, the amount of salmon is far less than it used to be.
