After nine hours of talks between the RMT union and Network Rail, the industrial action planned by signalling staff last Thursday was called off (your report, 9 October). Could they not have got together last week and called off the disruption on Tuesday? Lack of basic communication seems to be a problem nowadays and, contrary to popular belief, there are no winners in a strike.
