LEWIS Hamilton and Chris Hoy were forced to abandon their "Man versus Machine" challenge yesterday at Wembley Stadium.
Triple Olympic cycling gold medallist Hoy was to race on a bike, while Formula One world champion Hamilton was set to be at the wheel of a 670bhp McLaren Mercedes.
However, due to bad weather and treacherous conditions on the tarmac track laid inside the stadium, Hoy was advised it was unsafe for him to race.
The pair were last night competing for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award after Paralympic swimmer Eleanor Simmonds, 14, was named BBC Young Sports Personality.
The swimmer, who won two golds at the Beijing Paralympics, beat Wimbledon junior champion Laura Robson and Olympic diver Tom Daley to the under-16s award – which was presented by former winner Theo Walcott and boxer Ricky Hatton.
