Published Date: 20 June 2009
LIVINGSTON supporters are planning a mass protest against controversial chairman Angelo Massone at Almondvale today as the club lurches from one crisis to another.
Long-suffering fans of the West Lothian club have finally lost all patience with the Italian after Scottish Power switched off the club's electricity supply on Thursday due to an unpaid bill of £32,000.

Many supporters fear the writing is on the w
all for their club as West Lothian Council is also due an estimated £280,000 in rent arrears by the end of this month.

However, what infuriated supporters even more than Massone's failure to pay the utility bill was his feeble excuse that the fans are partly to blame for Livingston's financial plight.

Don Paul, chairman of the Supporters Trust, insists Massone has lost all respect among the entire Livingston support and has urged him to sever all ties with the First Division outfit.

He said: "There is going to be a protest on Saturday at the stadium and I believe this will be attended by all the supporters groups.

"I think what is significant is that in the last 24 hours, the last of Mr Massone's supporters have turned against him now.

"We believe the club would be far better without him. He did divide the fans before but now we have seen his true colours. This excuse that it's only him that is supporting the club is a lot of rubbish."

Former Cowdenbeath chairman Gordon McDougall has previously said he is willing to take over Livingston from Massone and Paul hopes his proposal bears fruit.

He added: "I think Mr McDougall has said all the right things about how he would run the club.

"I don't believe Massone has any plan and we ask him to walk away."

It's understood Livingston yesterday made no attempt to resolve the issue with Scottish Power. Massone said he did not pay the electricity bill on purpose to highlight his personal stake in the running of the First Division club.

"It was our decision to show the people what happens if I don't put in my own money," explained the Italian. "People told me from the beginning that it's not correct to pay with private money and the company needs to be self-sufficient.

"So, if Angelo Massone doesn't put in the money, the lights are off; this is the message.

"Unfortunately, if I don't put the money in, Livingston can't survive. This has been the case from the very beginning. Every day, I have put in money to give Livingston the possibility of survival.

"I will definitely put in more money, but the message is: This is what happens if I don't.

"We need the help of the community and businessmen in West Lothian. Without this, I can keep putting in my money for another year or two, but Livingston will have no future.

"People who speak badly of me perhaps think they are winners. But no, they are the losers, because this is what happens without me."

Massone also had trouble paying Livingston's players on time last season and the latest setback has further infuriated supporters, who will today make clear their opinions on his stewardship of their club.

Meadowbank Thistle were given every chance when the moved to Livingstone and changed their name.

Unfortunately they were beaten by the coachloads of glory hunters which leave the town every Saturday.

It was hoped that the next generation would support their home team but with the Rangers and Celtic sectarian bigots, that never had a chance.

Mass Protest?? Would be surprised if there were more than 500 there but hopefully their hardcore of 1000-1500 make the effort and people from the local community who would also affected by the demise of the club

It would be a shame for them to go to the wall however. Many of the people involved with Livingston gave it a good shot but even when free tickets were everywhere in West Lothian they have still been unable to get anywhere near a decent support and recent numbers are a joke.

Massone seems a total clown based on the state of Livingston and his posts on their fans forum.

Hopefully the Griffiths sale will lighten their financial problems and someone then takes over.

#1,

Ibrox and Parkhead must be some size according to folk like you since there are "coachloads" leaving for the two grounds from every town in Scotland. Add all the fans from Glasgow, Ireland (north or south), etc....

The truth is it's a bogus whinge from jealous fans of unsuccessful clubs. There are certainly enough people left in the Livingston area to keep the club going. If those folk just aren't interested in what's on offer it's too bad. The same goes for other towns.

Scottish football club in "devil's bargain" with dubious foreign owner...where have I heard that before?

Good luck to the supporters and others who are trying to save the club.

There may be lessons for others to learn, who knows..?

"A bogus whinge from jealous fans."

I don't know of any non-OF fans who are jealous of the OF fans.

Sure, it must ne nice to be winning trophies most of the time. But jealous?

I've made these points before and so have others but they are no less true for all that. Think what goes along with it for the children.

You have to bring your kids up to be sectarian and to teach them to remember the Derry Wall. You have to explain what the Red Hand of Ulster is and what it means to Rangers. You must ensure that bigotry is ingrained in them so that they can pass it on to their kids.

If a Celtic supporter you must do most of the above. You must also encourage respect for a murderous bunch of cowards who think it's OK to target and kill innocent children, men and women.

For both you must teach them a distorted and malign history of another country and claim it as your own. This allows them to take their place in the terracings and be proud of the two clubs who exploit them for the sake of sustaining an allegience through the generations and is based on ignorance.

I am aware that the above does not apply to all OF supporters. Nearly all though.

So jealous? No. We wouldn't do that to your children far less our own.

What a rant Pike, old boy, I nearly cringed to death. Golda Meir must be spinning in her grave. Frankly your 'big boys stole my sweeties' routine makes me embarrassed for you. If you have such a problem with bigotry (and I honestly doubt that you have; your problem is only down to the success of the Glasgow clubs) then we'd have heard more out of you regards the bigotry and offensive chanting that is regularly heard at Tynecastle. It hasn't escaped the attentions of this newspaper who have commented on it on a few occasions this season and in some of those matches there wasn't a Glasgow club around. Nobody would deny that the Glasgow teams have their share of lowlifes following them, but if you want to look at it proportionally, then the amount of bangers, crackpots and neds that lurk the Gorgie area qand inside Tynecastle on a matchday, then Hearts problem might be more than equal to that of my team Celtic's. However, in reality, as we have a massive support, our undesireables are worth commenting on. But as your team is a smalltime, no-mark outfit, nobody really cares if your mob are up to their knees in someones blood or if their favoutite three initials are U,V and F. Its also worth you noting, in my opinion, that I was at CP the day Mark Walters made his debut. Shocking, horrible, outrageous are words that don't even begin to describe it. So you can imagine how bad the visit to Tynecastle must have been for him to comment that Hearts fans were by far the worst he encountered in his time in Scotland. I should'nt be the only one cringing here Pike, you should be doing a fair bit of it yourself.

11 - I rarely find common ground with you I-Mac, but I think we see this surly drama-queen for what she really is - bitter, jealous, always the bride3smaid, never the bride attitude.

In fact the similarities between your average Hearts fan and a bitter, ageing spinster are too many not to comment on.

The reason for my "Rant" wqas because of the perception amongst OF fans that the rest of Scotland is jealous.

You display the same arrogance yourself when you write about my club being a small time, no mark outfit that nobody cares about. If I state now that I am not a Hearts supporter, that in no way alters your point because you would say that about any Scottish Club apart from Celtic/Rangers. Suffice to say this. Without the rest of the Scottish Clubs there would be no OF.

Hearts fans behaviour is beside the point in this matter. The subject was the "Jealousy of non OF supporters".

I addressed that but I note that you were unable to dispute what I wrote because it was the truth.

You resort instead to personal observations and insults that says more about you than me.

#14 - Well said, Mr Pike!

As for Herr Sachs, what can I say?

"...the amount of bangers, crackpots and neds that lurk the Gorgie area qand inside Tynecastle on a matchday, then Hearts problem might be more than equal to that of my team Celtic's."

A balanced and objective viewpoint if ever I saw one.

Fringo

If Hibs get offered less than half of £3m then Fletcher will not be going anywhere.

Hibs can afford to wait until things pick up again.

In any case, you're wrong.
