A FOOTBALL captain was due to undergo surgery today after his jaw was broken in a nightclub attack.
Motherwell captain Paul Quinn, 22, is in hospital following an assault at a night-spot in Wishaw, Lanarkshire on Saturday night.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident at Baker Street nightclub.

A Motherwell spokesman said: "Motherwell Football Club can confirm that club captain Paul Quinn was attacked at Baker Street nightclub on Saturday night and was taken to Wishaw General Hospital.

"For legal reasons, the club cannot comment any further as the matter is now in the hands of the police.

"We wish Paul a speedy recovery from his injuries."

Quinn became captain earlier this year following the death of Phil O'Donnell, who collapsed during a match on December 29.

A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: "A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with an incident in Baker Street nightclub.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
