Published Date: 15 July 2008
MOTHERWELL are to sign Celtic defender John Kennedy on a short-term loan. The 24-year-old is in Austria with Motherwell on a pre-season training camp and will sign a deal to join the club until the end of December.
"He looks strong and fit. We can offer him the chance to play in Europe (the Uefa Cup]," Motherwell manager Mark McGhee told BBC Sport. Celtic's Jim O'Brien is also set to join McGhee's side, but on a permanent basis. He is also in Austria, with a
view to agreeing a deal.

Kennedy has recently returned to full fitness after damaging his knee against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League last November.

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is thought to be keen for Kennedy to get more games and feels the player will benefit from a short-term move.

McGhee says he plans to assess the value of the player over the next week and decide what kind of fee the club should offer Celtic for his services.

Scotland Under-21 winger O'Brien has found it difficult to break into the first team at Celtic and is eager for a move to following loan spells at Dunfermline and Dundee United.

"He has realised he has a better chance of playing regular first team football elsewhere," McGhee said. O'Brien added: "It would be a great move if I could come here ]Motherwell]. My future is up to the manager and Scott Leitch and what they think of me. That is why I am here, so they can have a close look at what I've got to offer. Just how much I impress is down to me and I obviously want to create a positive impression.."

I know this story broke on the BBC, but this is another article from another source reproduced virtually word for word.

If it was credited to the BBC and reproduced here, rather than purportedly written by Angus Wright, I would have no problem. I'm sure Sure Mr Wright would be pretty fed up if it was the other way around.

From the official Celtic website............

Newsroom Staff
FOLLOWING a number of reports in the media today, Celtic Football Club would like to clarify that, contrary to these reports, there has been no agreement finalised between Celtic and Motherwell for John Kennedy to join the Fir Park club on loan.

Now, you would think that Celtic might know something about this deal !

Yep it's verbatim from the BBC site. The bell has already tolled for the Scots papers. I heard The Herald was running a skeleton staff that changes by the week or month. Think same thing at the Daily Retard and the Hootsman too now it seems. Have some sympathy because they can't make money if we can see it for free on the internet without paying. But papers in Scotland sell on the back of the sports pages. And for years now most of the Scots sports hacks have tied their own nooses by being Murray's sycophants and writing everything the way he tells it. Absolute abomination of journalistic integrity. He's just a football club chairman, but he's treated as the pan piper and ringmaster of Scottish football. They guy's a rich prat. Egotistical to the point it blinds his judgement - regularly. He just wants to act out his vain fantasy of being some kind of emperor of Govan (or should that be prince of darkness) You turned your readers away in droves because you failed to give insight and unbiased opinion. Where's all he questions you should be asking him about accounts, redevelopments, superstadium, debt, other investors' money, things he himself has boasted about endlessly over the years. But IMHO Traynor's the biggest and most brown nosed of Murray's gimp poodles. Golden rule of journalism - objectivity.

#34 fog.....I think post #4 skelps the nail firmly on the head.

Incidentally, what was sectarian or bigoted about the post?
You rangers folk don't like the spotlight on you, as soon as it happens you squeal about sectarianism and bigotry or the favourite, they're pure worser than us.

Some of the stuff that the tabloids have been ordered to print in Scotland by Murray have been laughable.

The record was made the 'official' outlet for the UEFA cup run for heavens sake, what supporter of ANY other club would trust a word thats printed in the chip wrapper?

Scotland had a proud history of being a nation which bought newspapers, they have driven the readership away with their pandering to Murray.

There is SO much that needs written about the goings on at Ibrox, e.g. why is the stadium (in an unattractive out of town site) valued at FIVE TIMES that of Tynecastle which is in an A1 PRIME city location?

What happened to the investigation into the inner core of fans singing sectarian songs in the San Siro?

What were the results of the fraud investigations?

I think we should be told and we need good journalists to tell us, therein lies the flaw.

Does this spell the end for Kennedy? You have got tae think that he is not as fit or fast as prior the injury and that Celtic don`t see him as part of the future. It`s a shame really as he seemed like a good bloke and just shows that it`s a cruel game at times !

"Come on Chucky - today is the 75th of May - and Murray promised to announce the details of the super new 700m stadium by the end of May" (#38)

No he didn't.

As for the Kennedy story being in the Guardian first, at least one Celtic fan has been claiming on these pages that this was done by Celtic to spite the evil Scottish media. Now that the Kennedy story turns out not to be true, it looks like the conspiracy theory will have to be revised.

I really hope JFK enjoys the loan spell, if he plays in the UEFA cup though he may as well spend the season at Fir Park.

The guys mental strenghth is incredible, I think many a lesser being would have chucked in the towel a long time ago, he definately deserves a bit if injury free time now.
34

Raskolnikov,

15/07/2008 09:13:16
Sonofcosmos - Samaras is signing for 1m initially, with another million when he makes 100 appearances.

Last week Auxerre were quoting 6m for Tamas. Lawwell gets him for 3.5

Celtic are certainly reaping the benefits of biding their time.

44 - Raskolnikov. The reports are that he cost Auxerre £1m from Celta Viga a year ago so it's not bad business for the French team. Worries - why did the Spanish side let him go and is he a Lee Naylor type ? -one season wonder (with that one season behind him ?)

Anyway, good luck to him.
37

Raskolnikov,

15/07/2008 09:26:33
46 - He has 3 years left on his contract, which ups the ante every time.

Why did the Spanish side let him go? Why does any team let any player go? Does it mean he is therefore a dud? What does that make Miller and LAugherty?

Rask;

Finished AK. As you say the end is pretty brutal (for AK) wthin the context of the priviledged society described by LT. However I have read far more brutal endings; have you read any of Kafka? Try "The Trial", "The Judgement" or the "The Penal Colony". Seriously scary stuff from the mind of a seriously deranged genius.

PS: I should have read the translators note (at the front of AK) which confirmed your explanation for dropping the feminine version with an "a". (Duh!)

47 You don't let anyone go for £1m if you think he's any good (unless he was coming to the end of his contract in Spain). I don't know if he's a dud - we'll soon find out. I hope not.

I also think it's valid to ask questions about Gordie's signings because they haven't been great at the level we're talking about here.
45

sonofcosmos,

glasgow 15/07/2008 10:00:34
#54 due to a couple of high profile disappointments in the transfer market it allows this myth about celtics transfer dealings to evolve..the celtic team which has won 3 in a row and qualified for the last 16 of the cl twice has been made up entirely of strachans signings or players brought through at parkhead. thats good enough for me
46

CHUCKY,

Samaras for a Mill......yes please, what a great bit of business. He scored 8 goals from 10 appearances (plus 6 as a sub) since January, thats more than KM scored in a season.

He's yet another young hungry player added to the squad, the future certainly looks good, now for the Romanian Tamas and a left back Peter.

I understand that if the value of your assets is lower than the amount of your debt you are insolvent/bankrupt and therefore trading fraudulently.

I believe Real Madrid were made to sell a training complex for £250 Mill to clear their debts.

I also understand that Platini has a bee in his bunnet about clubs spending on tranfers when they've nowt in the bank, he regards this as cheating and I can see where he's coming from.

Auxerre gaffer on Tamas:

Gabriel is a real Fans Favourite
" As a player there is a lot to like about him, "He is superb in the air and wins almost every header he goes for he is also very composed with the ball at his feet.
"he can play a 40 or 50 metre pass easily without thinking about it and strikers find him very difficult to play against, He is also very quick so is rarely outpaced by a striker.
"Gabriel has a lot of experience over 30 caps for his country and he played every game in Euro 2008"

" i knew when we signed him that it would only be a matter of time before he progressed, he always had ambitions of going to the top".
"What i did not know about him was his character and thats a big reason why our fans love him so much, " He has time for everyone he meets , he is always joking always smiling and always has stories to tell. " He thinks about others too, Last season he spent a lot of his own money to buy hundreds of our strips to hand out to the fans he met at training.

" He has reached a point in his career where we simply are not big enough for him. We are a club with European experience but in comparison to Celtic we are small.

"We get modest crowds of 7 and 8 thousand and they dont generate the level of noise and passion the Celtic fans do.
" A guy like Gabriel needs that level of attention and he will thrive on it ".

[IF] he signs all the Celtic fans will appreciate his talents and take him to thier hearts ,He will repay them by doing it at the highest level for them, He can live with Champions League football and all the demands that come with playing for a big club.

Fernandez was hoping he could convince Tamas to stay in Auxerre with talks scheduled for yesterday, at the Stade L"abbe Deschamps.

But before he could talk to Tamas the player was already on a flight to begin the next part of his career. Fernandez said "When i first heard of Celtic"s Interest i did not assume we would lose him , I always felt i could talk to G

Gabriel and see what his thoughts where. " I also knew the club had to agree a fee with Auxerre because he had 3 years left to run on his contract. " I expected to see Gabriel back at training on Monday morning, " But i got a call first thing from his agent to confirm he was on his way to Glasgow to talk with Celtic."

He'll do for me.

Why is it that you believe everything printed regarding Shittu that was in the paper, yet constantly get on about the press being in Murray's back pocket and that they rarely give favourable press to Celtic.

Which is it, are most stories the truth or made up fantasies by the press, or does it just depend on what the article's content is about or which club?

ps. I think most of the press written is National Enquirer journalism.

#108 DM....."Why is it that you believe everything printed regarding Shittu that was in the paper"

Cause it is direct quotes from Shittu.

"constantly get on about the press being in Murray's back pocket"

The Daily Record was made the 'official' mouthpiece of the club by Murray. That is, he made a NATIONAL newspaper into little more than a club magazine.

"ps. I think most of the press written is National Enquirer journalism."

Agreed.

#110 Usually when it is a direct quote I tend to give it credance.......until it is proved to be out of context.

With the other article in this paper on Kennedy saying he is not signed to go on loan to Motherwell, as per CFC.

I suppose that is the story we are to believe.

These reporters are as good/bad as the local weatherman.

#112 - aaah, i see. you believe only what you want (but also reserve the right to revise your opinion at a later date)? talk about having your cake and eating it

would that also apply to the barry robson quote where he confirmed that he had a knee injury prior to the scotland - croatia game?

It has been speculated in the press that the Greek lad is moving for 2mil to the Celtic.

On another thread you said Sammy cost 1/3 of what KM was transferred for, and the last I read KM moved to Ibrox for 1.9mil.

How do you come up with you're 1/3 figure of KM fee for Sammy.

Seville calculator in use again??

Anakin. You're trying too hard mate. Stick to what you enjoy, not what's going to impress Prince Pishkin.

Dear CondoleezzaCousCous (love the name), I do not try to impress anybody, least of all Prince Pishkin, whomsoever he is. However, I do take recommendations from all and would welcome any reads that you would recommend.

My best wishes to you and yours

Anakin
