Motherwell will face Nancy in the UEFA Cup first round

MOTHERWELL have been drawn to face French side Nancy in the first round of the UEFA Cup.
Mark McGhee's side will play European football for the first time in 13 years after finishing third in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League last season.

Nancy clinched fourth place in France's Ligue 1 to earn their place in the competition.

The clash will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides.
Motherwell's last European adventure was a short one.

They were beaten on away goals by Finnish club My-Pa 47 in UEFA Cup qualifying, despite winning the second leg 2-0.

To be frank with you, I will be very surprised if your bhoys can lay a glove on the famous Glasgow Rangers at the weekend. Ole Mendes and Davies will be oinging that ball around the midfield quicker than the human eye can discern, With Van Boyd due a goal or three, the picture looks grim for your lot.

Can't see that being the line-up anyway. I wouldn't expect Walter to 4-4-2 it at CP.

I reckon maybe Novo and Beasley in the wide positions, with Miller up front by himself, but the other two joining him to make a 4-3-3 when Rangers are going forward. Davis, Mendes and Thomson in central midfield.

As for the lack of home grown players, Hutton was sold for a King's ransom, Burke and Smith are injured, but Adam and Fleck could feature on the bench.

With Mythgregor looking decidedly shaky in goal, Cuellar punted, Big Weirisome still there and Bougherra looking like a cart horse, Walter (no surname and in whom we trust) would only be confirming his decent into madness if he considers opening up to attack the Mighty Celts at the weekend.

His prior tactics of 4 deep defenders and a defensive midfield protected them from a serious hiding before.

If he does not provide midfield cover for MythGregor, Clubfoot, PoohPatch, buggerer and Weirison and exposes them to Scotlands last 3 seasons player of the year (Nakagod, Maloneybhoy and Aidenho) on a 1 on 1 basis, a serious amount of pain is about to be inflected.

Yes...Celtic might be vulnerable at the back, but a blind man can see that Celtic are better equiped to handle ReaRangers (ahem) flair players (Beastley??) than ReaRangers are to handle Celtics.

On that basis, Walter should be carted off if he exposes his team to that risk.

Having played so many games last season in Europe, all the way to the European Cup final you may recall, we are happy for the break this season. Domestic dominance is the name of the game this season. Alonng with a good belly laugh or two at Celtic's assault on third place in their CL group.

Question for you. What is the point of a club of Celtic's limited resources being in the CL?

I'm content to wait for the game, and let's see what develops, rather than the premature boasting that you prefer.

We were promised two severe beatings at CP last season, but in the end, the first game required a scrambled 95th minute winner against 10 men, while the second game saw an offside goal given and a penalty for an infringement outside the box to provide a win.

If the big decisions don't go against us on Sunday, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Now that the playing field has been levelled, Ra Peepul canny take it.

I don't believe that there has ever been a problem with referees in Scotland, other than a certain level of incompetence, and a natural tendency to give the big teams, ie Celtic and Rangers, the benefit of the doubt, particularly in front of a noisy full house at CP or Ibrox.

That having been said, there have been a few huge decisions already in this season's SPL that have been to the distinct benefit of Celtic and to the detriment of Rangers.

Conventional wisdom is that such things tend to even out, so if Rangers get the benefit of a couple of big calls on Sunday, we'll be back to square one.

Well for a start,those limited resources you refer to have just been boosted by £2.25 million directly as a result of "Walters" new-look,new season Rearrangerz being royally humped out of Europe by Dark Horse,F.C. Tiddlers Kaunus.

Then you have the prestige and guaranteed £10 million from competing with and against la creme de la creme in Europe such as your current Champions of Europe Man Utd.

I`m sure you`d agree that those are two cracking "points" to be going on with.

Then we have Champions Celtic being given the chance, with our magnificent support,to start to mend bridges with the good people of The City of Manchester,who were forced to suffer so much at the hands of the Rearrangerz hordez, mobbing,rioting and looting their fine City,only a few short months ago.

So its more than just financial gain that is the "point".
Champions Celtic can start to recover the good name of Scotland in the eyes of our European neighbours.

Neighbours who must above all be so delighted and relieved that they wont have to contemplate invasions,for at least the next year,from the hordez from Govan.

Thats the "point".

Bougherra, Lafferty, Mendes and Edu all in line to make their OF debuts on Sunday. And KM is poised to enter the fray too for what will be a roaster of a reception...getting booed by both sets of fans is something of a first in OF history.

Rearrangerz are a team that is trying to find its feet , and there isn't a settled 'first 11' yet.
That can work well : those who get chosen to start will be trying to play out their skins to remain in the manager's plans.

On the other hand, if the going gets really tough, they lack the cohesion to stick together and face off an onslaught.

If Celtic get their noses in front and start piling on the pressure for a second, Weir will face his toughest job yet as a captain trying to stop things falling apart. Rearrangerz will be at serious risk of implosion in those circumstances , and Celtic must go for the jugular should that scenario arise.

On the contrary, if Rearrangerz score first, it will boost their confidence and galvanise them , and Celtic will have a battle on their hands...it's just that Celtic should cope better with going a goal down than might Rearrangerz.
