Attacker flees with cash and a takeaway

A MAN was assaulted and robbed by an attacker who made off with his takeaway meal.

The 43-year-old was standing at the junction between Leith Walk and Albert Street at around 11.30pm on Thursday when he was struck on the side of the head, which knocked him off balance.

When he regained his bearings, the man realised that his takeaway - along with a sum of cash from his pocket - had been stolen.

A police spokesman said: "The victim did not see his attacker and so we are appealing for members of the public who were in or around the area on Thursday night to come forward.

"We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been on a number seven Lothian bus, which is believed to have been on the corner of Albert Street at the time of the incident.

"Similarly, anyone with any other information that can assist with our inquiries should also contact police immediately."
