Black mark on green issues for baby boomers

THE baby boomer generation is a major risk to the environment because of their lack of awareness over green issues, a new report has claimed.

A study carried out by scientists from the Stockholm Environment Institute, based at the University of York, has warned that 50- to 64-year-olds have a higher carbon footprint than the UK average, and are likely to continue their bad habits into old age - replacing the frugal habits of the wartime generation which now makes up the elderly population.

"Baby boomers have the highest carbon footprint in the UK compared with other age groups," said the report.
