Letter: Fury over fish

It is difficult to understand why Scottish fishermen should have to fight to end the insane practice of throwing dead, marketable fish back into the sea, to conform to the EU Common Fisheries Policy (your report, 14 January).

Scotland has never been given the opportunity, either as a country or as part of the United Kingdom, to vote in a referendum on whether we want to incorporate EU Regulation drawn up without reference to our national interest, into Scots law. There is no democratic basis for the application of the Common Fisheries Policy in Scotland.

Has the Scottish Government abandoned responsibility for protecting the interests of the fishing industry around our coastline?
