Third of ScotRail trains more than a minute late

ONE third of ScotRail trains arrive more than a minute later than advertised, according to the rail operator’s own figures.

Rail travellers are often left frustrated by an apparent disparity between the reality of late trains and positive official figures.

Figures released earlier this month showed that only six per cent of ScotRail trains were late - but in those statistics a late train was defined as a delay of more than five minutes, rising to ten minutes for long-distance services and 30 minutes for Caledonian Sleeper trains.

But ScotRail’s own figures - which do not count towards the official punctuality total - revealed that between 33 per cent and 36 per cent of trains are more than one minute late.

Minor delays can be caused by taking extra care over wheelchair-bound passengers, those with prams and waiting for connecting services, the rail operator said.
