Scots working extra hours 'owed £4,517'

THE average Scottish employee who works unpaid overtime missed out in £4,517 worth of wages last year, according to new figures.
The STUC yesterday estimated the number of Scots who worked unpaid overtime increased by 20,000 to 436,000.

Each worked an average of six hours and 54 minutes a week.

The STUC and TUC calculate that if everyone in the UK did all their unpaid overtime at the start of the year, it would be 22 February before they started getting paid.

They have declared this date Work Your Proper Hours Day, calling on employers to co-operate.

Does this overtime take into consideration "water cooler breaks" long lunches and the ubiquitous misuse of company time writing on blogs, surfing the net personal emails, "sick" days but mostly on the net.

How do you work out that people are doing unpaid overtime? Do you ask their employer?
My experience is that the laziest and most useless clown in the building will tell you how hard worked they are.
