"... this would have the effect of excluding young Scots from exploring their own visual culture ..."

In what way is Titian an expression of Scottish visual culture?

I am all in favour of keeping the painting in Edinburgh, if possible, but I could think of better reasons for doing so.

Pardon the slippage of clause, Dr. Wilkie. Admission charges might have the effect of exluding young Scots from the gallery, not the withdrawal of the Titians per se, though this is loosely connected to reasons of filthy lucre, not culture, more the cause of the MP's objection.

The presence of these works in Scotland's national collection IS part of Scottish visual culture: collectorship and cultural capital through the ages are part of the larger cultural landscape, but that isn't likely to make MPs stop sound-biting, sadly.

Either way, I hope both our efforts will be successful.

yours,

Loura Brooks, her alias as Foody Mum revealed at last!
