Thousands of people in Scotland are in need of an affordable home. In addition, we have an internationally acclaimed homelessness target to meet in 2012. So, with the building industry threatening to grind to a complete halt, we needed to see some action.
The Scottish Government has done just that (your report, 20 August), with the announcement it is bringing forward £60 million of its own capital funding (planned for 2010-11 spending), with a possible £40 million more from local government. We welcome this move to boost affordable housing in the short term. However, we are keen to see the finer details of where the money is coming from, particularly that from local government.

What exactly is an 'affordable home'? I would have thought we all need to live in a home that we can afford.

Why not tell it like it is? This is cheap housing.

Thank you for the nice comment Graeme.

No doubt Nu-Labour will be just a generous in their comments!

What is so wrong with renting when you're young. Buying houses when you're in a more favourable position is the best way to go.

SNP has build more council houses in 8 months than Labour / Lib Dems did in 8 years. Not that that would be hard as I think their total was something like 12.

4 Linda.

Precisely how long do YOU think it takes to build a council house. ?

and who ever heard of any Political party having the time or the know how to get involved in the building of any house ?

Whether the SNP have initiatad the building of more council houses in 8 months than the previous administrations did during 8 years is the point you perhaps wished to discuss. Where did you find your figures ?

Linda

Where did the SNP get the money for this heroic house building program? From their tightly controlled budget?
What did they sacrifice to build these houses?
NOTHING because it is not true. AND I know becuase if the SNP had even thought of increasing public house building we would have heard about it from foghorn Salmond!!! NOt a peep....or a cheep....
