In his review of my exhibition at the Edinburgh Printmakers (Festival Review, 16 August), Duncan Macmillan is lazy to say that the history in my picture Compulsory education is "probably historically dubious".
I have spent some time researching the subject and I refer him and interested parties to John Taylor Gatto's book The Underground History of American Education – chapter seven "The Prussian Connection" – also available at www.johntaylorgatto.com.

Oh come on, Mr McCail, let's not undermine decades of tradition in art criticism by insisting on some degree of factual accuracy.

Chad - read about you in an article and wondered if you knew about the option to home educate your children. See:

www.schoolhouse.org.uk

There is a unique opportunity to see, hear and meet John Taylor Gatto at the Learning Without Limits Conference which Schoolhouse is hosting in Arbroath from 12 - 14 Sept. John is not doing any other events in the UK so this is a rare chance to meet the great man so don't miss it! He has a new book coming out in October "Weapons of Mass Instruction".
