REPORTS that the Liberal Democrats are preparing to strike a deal by which they will support the SNP's proposals for local income tax (LIT) mark a potential major breakthrough in steering this controversial legislation through the Holyrood Parliament. Some astute reporting here. Salmond is simply seen as a far, far better and effective political and national leader by Scots voters than Brown (or Cameron). If that brings independence, so be it. Leadership quality and likeability of a leader has a lot to do with voting intentions. To most Scots, Brown is both disliked and mistrusted, while Cameron is simply mistrusted. In Scotland, both NewLab and Tory are now unelectable compared with Salmond.
