I wholeheartedly support David Donaldson (Letters, 18 August), who highlights the flawed reasoning of the trade union Unison and the public sector's total failure to appreciate how cosseted they are to enjoy benefits and comfort the private sector can only dream of: security of employment, final-salary pension schemes and unaccountability, all courtesy of taxes drawn largely from the private sector. Mr Donaldson rightly emphasises that the government, and, indeed, local authorities, have no money. They simply deploy and help themselves to the trough of riches provided by taxpayers. It is common to read reports rejoicing over councils being fined...
