Power politics and spurning the West is not a viable option in interdependent 21st century, writes DAVID MILIBAND
SINCE the collapse of the Soviet Union, it has seemed that new rules were being established for the conduct of international relations in central and eastern Europe and central Asia. The watchwords were independence and interdependence; sovereignty a...

Sounds like a man uttering his 'famous last words!'

If this was coming from an individual who wasn't a serving member of a government that has ignored UN resolutions and invaded two sovereign countries, it might have more credence. Typical Labour sleaze.

Nowhere does David Miliband mention that it was the Georgians who started the present crisis. One of their military leaders boasted that they had three hundred artillery pieces firing simultaneously at towns in South Ossetia.
His attmpt to distinguish this crisis from Kosovo is pathetic. The "ethnic cleansing" in Kosovo only srated after the NATO.
It is depressing that someone talked about as a future Labour Party leader seems to be even more of a subservient toady to the Bush administration than Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

This obscene child raping cannabalistic genocidal Nazi war criminal compares Russia's actions with what he did in Kosovo. Unfortunately to make the comparison work he has to lie.

The "dramatic & systematic abuse of human rights" was the genocide carried out by NATO armed & organised KLA gangsters. NATO's intervention was not to prevent atrocities but to assist in them. Miliband knows this because a previous foreign secretary, Robin Cook, told Parliament this before starting the war. There were 2 periods of ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. Firstly by NATO bombers (which alone can explain why a larger portion of the Serb than the Albanian population fled) & secondly when NATO moved in & appointed the KLA as "police" so that they could carry out their plans to massacre or cleanse 350,000 people. Mr Miliband also glosses over his personal role in kidnapping schoolgirls & dissecting teenagers to sell their organs.

It is unfortunate that the Scotsman is giving space to this Nazi war criminal but not unexpected when you bear in mind the deliberate censorship of our government's atrocities & genocide that our media have been doing for so many years.

This coming from a cheerleader of Stalin who tried to argue with a Pole that Stalin liberated Poland from Nazi Germany.

Researching Globalization I find it originates from a research team at Yale University which was financed by the UK in 2001.

I recall Gordon Brown being the architect of the "Aid for Trade" programme which led to the bringing about of the G8 summit meetings and Doha talks.

The Yale University Globalization website says :-

Global economic governance

The painfully acquired awareness of the need for an international rules-based framework is what led to building the existing multilateral system, a system that has made important contributions to the unprecedented progress and economic growth that many countries have enjoyed since the end of the Second World War. Yet, the challenges of globalization today cannot adequately be handled by a system that was designed largely for the world of more than half a century ago. For a range of common problems the world has no formal institutional mechanism to ensure that voices representing all relevant domains are heard in the discussion, nor is there an instrument or procedure commonly agreed upon for deciding who does what. The Center aims to contribute to the discussion of how to fill the existing gaps in global economic governance.

Foreign policy role of key international players

The strategies and policies of the major geopolitical actors affect the whole structure of international relations. Consequently, the Center will embark in foreign policy discussions exploring the choices, demands, and options as well as the internal and external forces acting upon major players such as the U.S. and the EU as they develop their policies.

Reform of United Nations

Since the end of the Cold War, the Council has
been much more active than before, but, a few remarkable successes
apart, it has continued to be deadlocked when trying to prevent or solve
serious crises. Not surprisingly, Security Council reform, which last took
place some 40 years ago, has been an out

contd from above....outstanding issue for a long time.
Various attempts to adapt the Council have failed due to strong
disagreements among UN members, particularly on the issue of
enlargement.

Global governance for peace and security

For good reason, one of the oldest applications of international cooperation is found in the area of peace and security. Yet, it is obvious that existing multilateral arrangements to control international violence are not appropriate to deal with present or foreseeable conflicts and threats. An international environment characterized by conflict and violence would end up undermining, or even reversing, globalization, as occurred previously prior to the second World War. Consequently, the Center will work to support the generation of ideas to improve global collaboration for peace and security.

Key factors for inclusion in globalization

Although it is usually true that “one size does not fit all,” there is also the valid presumption that there are some policy-dependent factors that will make it more likely for people, communities and countries to engage successfully in the global market economy. Helping to identify those factors will also be a defining criteria for the Center’s future activities.

Papers include: "The Future of Migration": Irresistible Forces meet Immovable Ideas Lant Pritchett Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University Center for Global Development.

Globalization surely involves all aspects of world trade, enlargement, foreign policy, security, reform of international laws within the United Nations, and world immigration, and world economic policies, and is by any other name The New World Order.

I note you can't dispute it as to fact Itchy & have to resort to insults.

Miliband is involved in supporting child rape, in dissecting people for their organs which is a mofern form of cannibalism, genocide, & war crimes fought for the policy of Adolf in the Balkans. This is simply fact.

Such behaviour is indeed "obscene" by the legal definition of "tending to deprave or corrupt".

Pantherman we had a working system of international law. It was enough to provide rules each side could live by & stop them having to use rockets during the cold war. As soon as it was over the NATO powers destroyed the rule of law to get to kill Yugoslavs. We urgently need to rebuild it.
