KENNY MacAskill, the justice secretary, has clashed with immigration officials in Whitehall over a planned overhaul of the UK's asylum laws. On 12 October, he stated his wish to see asylum seekers integrated into communities from "day one" of their arrival into the country.
This bold objective inevitably raises questions about the SNP's relationship with local authorities and also with those in civil society who try to speak up for the views of local communities.

It is clear that this commitment to welcoming asylum ...
