PETER Hain, the under-fire Work and Pensions Secretary, has been cleared of breaking the ministerial code.
Sir Gus O'Donnell, the Cabinet Secretary, has said he is "satisfied" that none of the donations totalling £103,000 received by Mr Hain for his failed deputy leadership campaign conflicted with his ministerial duties.

Mr Hain has insisted that he had discussed all the donations with his permanent secretary, Sir Leigh Lewis, and been assured there were no conflicts.

However investigations are still continuing into his accounts, by the Electoral Commission and the Parliamentary Standards' Commissioner. A police inquiry has also still not been ruled out.

Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister, has publicly endorsed his work.

Labour trying to circumvent the investigations by the Electoral Commission, The Parliamentary Standards' Commission and Police Enquiry.

Looks good on paper, makes him look just about as clean a tattie as Wendy Alexander.

The public are not being taken in (again)

"Hain did not break code but inquiries will continue"

Everyone knew that; or at least knew that's what would be said.

Sounds like there is some really smelly stuff going round Westminster.

A tip for all you would be young crims, who are thinking of a career where you can get away with anything, providing you are a member of the New Labour Party. Just think there is no expectations whatsoever, that you would do the morally right thing. Not as long as your fellow corrupt mates are looking after your back.

"Hain did not break the code!" Is that code for "Hain is guilty as sin but what can you peasants do about it?"

Hopefully the voting public will do the needful at the next elections.

Surely the Fifers will do the needful and show the rest of us the way forward by getting rid of Brown.

Just watched Wendy's 'awesome' performance at FMQ's. I hope she manages to stay oot of Corntonvale until the next election. She'll take Labour to the dizzy heights of being 3rd to the Libdums.
Oh happy days!!!!

Can you help with any advice on diet etc as you seem a bit doggyfied ...he is only 8 months old.

Data wasn't he in star trek

Data is a sentient artificial lifeform, or rather cybernetic or even technological being designed to resemble a human. His positronic brain allows him impressive computational capabilities[3], as to 60 trillion operations per second (60 TRIPS per sec.), at 800 quadrillion computational rate speed

treky or what..........

If he has been cleared of breaking ministerial code ,whatever that means exactly, why was he being investigated? If there is no wrong doing, how can we identify a sum of £103,000 when there is nothing to identify or define it with?

Peter Hain cannot be innocent. If he were it would never have been investigated because there is NOTHING TO INVESTIGATE!

The whole Labour Party stinks to high heaven with sleaze corruption and gravy training.

Cowdenbeath please take note:SCOTLAND expects you to remove this filth at the general election!

They're broon, they stink,
ITS TIME, they were in the clink.

Brown keep trying to obfuscate by endorsing Hain's work record. Whether we agree with the statement or not, the problem is not his work record (maybe) but the sourcing of his donations! If he's that careless about £103K what else is he capable of with a massive budget. A few heads on pikes pour encourager les autres would be very satisfactory. That should include some closer to home also.

Are these political donations tax deductable?
21

27

Not if they come from the Channel Islands AS FAR AS I KNOW (since they do not contribute to our normal collection of taxation anyway )

However I know that there have been discussions over the taxable status of Crown dependencies who are not entirley within the European Union.Italy Holland and France seem to be the main input.

The Channel Islands have hinted that they would abandon their tied "pound" in favour of another currency (USA dollar is one possibility) if we enter into the Euro.We really are a total mess on these islands with rules based upon what LONDON expects rather than any commeon sense or principle.

I hear that a percentage (50%) of all donation are supposed to be passed on the the central party office. Hains poor memory came into play again and he forgot to pass the money on. No doubt the Labour Central Office will be demandin their cut. Not only is this cretin trusted with a Ministerial role, he has the full support of the PM?

It must also be remembered the role Hain played in placing Rhodesia (as was) into the hands of Mugabe and another black fell (Nkomo?), when later asked his view on Zimbabwe he said Mugabe was a bit of a disappointment. Yeah you could say that!!!
