Published Date: 08 September 2008
GORDON Brown, the Prime Minister, will tell ministers today that Britain will come through the current period of economic difficulty a "stronger, more secure and fairer country".
In a document being circulated at a special cabinet meeting in Birmingham, he will acknowledge that the UK faces new economic, social and technological challenges in a globalised world.

But he will tell them: "I do not underestimate these challenges, but I believe that Britain's future is bright."

The PM will urge ministers to forge "a new deal for this new world" based on the fundamental principle of fairness.

Mr Brown's comments, in the foreword to a document to be published at Labour's annual party conference in Manchester later this month, will inevitably be seen as part of his fightback strategy designed to restore the party's fortunes in the polls.

The document will be handed to ministers today before being discussed at a political meeting of the Cabinet in London next Tuesday.

More spin from Toom Tabard.

Britain's future is bright - without Brown's stranglehold on the economy through excessive taxation, without Brown's utterly transparent spin and lies and without his mediocre bunch of no-hoper, never did a real job ministers.

I agree with the PM as far as the economy is concerned but i also think he's a good man swiming against the tide. The wreckers and lazybones are just moaning to much.

France, Germany and Spain all have large scale industrial economies dealing with dirty businesses. They understand that not everything is the world is shinny or cuddly.

The Scotland/UK economy walked away from industry is a fit and a temper tantrum. Companies closed for no other reason than 'well it smelled' or 'its ugly' or 'i can't be bothered'.

Millions of work hour roles lost because of little attiudes. Little Britain did not want to get it hands dirty, with coal and manufacturing.

Now the little Englanders have been joined by the little Scotlanders. Some places just do not want to be a part of larger countries, the EU or even the world (unless its an eat all you can eat holiday). Its a pre-industrial attitude. This is a solid anti-EU and anti-Trade attitude.

I'm not sure your going to convince these guys to work but i think your fighting with honor. I respect that.

Brown is surely losing the lot. How can a recession make us "stronger, more secure and fairer country".

He has made a mess of the economy and should have done the honerable thing and resign.

I see that Gordon's friends in the press are flagging up all the personal difficulties that he's had to cope with in his life again, as some kind of badge of honour, they don't seem to realise that the days when mention of these past personal difficulties, such as his eyesight or the sad loss of a child, had any effect (if they ever did) are long gone, as is the case when using terms such as 'son of the manse', or 'iron chancellor'.

What this smacks off is desperation of the worst kind and using others to further his own intersts.

He and they should be ashamed.

Vidkun Quisling was also a "son of the manse".

Depressions break people. No one talks about it but industrial Britain did not have a ressesion in the 1970'-1980's we had a depression. We lost vast amounts of commcerce to the most lazy excuses. That time was a depression. Other countries at the time had ressesions we had a second great depression.

A ressesion is different, its a slow down and breathing space. Personally i'm reviewing my current activities. I have my wall planner out for the next two years and i'm looking at what has paid off, what will pay off and whats going to have to wait. Inlcuding one or two just waste of spaces.

With out this space companies, countries and people can make massive mistakes in moments. Moments regreteed for the rest of their lives (i'm not talking about separation).

In the UK we have a problem with ressions, people panick because in the past we were lied too. IN the 1970'-1980's we had a depression, not ression. This is a ressesion not depression.

Yes, the UK WILL emerge stronger after the period of economic difficulty.

However, the period of economic difficulty will only end several years after stupid labour have been voted out and a Tory government is in power.

"...people panick because in the past we were lied too."

You mean we are not being lied to now? If so, you are wrong.

We have been lied to more in the last 11 years than at any other time during the history of the UK. Some examples:-

1. WMD in Iraq
2. London bombings
3. Speed kills
4. Passive smoking
5. Scotland has a drink problem

And that's just to name a few.

On the big lie counter Scotlands people are been lied to far more than any state in Western Europe. Its quite disgracefull actually and i am surpirsed at the SNP's current stance.

Ask the SNP.

Can we aford separation without tax increases? Yes (LIE).

Can we aford to pay for boomer pensions without massive tax increases? yes (LIE, LIE).

Can we aford to increase funding to universities without a tax or top up fees? yes (LIE, LIE, LIE).

Will Scotland be held back economically by not building new Nuclear Power stations? No (LIE, LIE, LIE, LIE).

Will Scotlands people have an easy decade after separation withot vast public borrowing to be paid of later by higher taxes? No (LLLLIIIIIIEEEEE).

Sorry to be immature but the SNP are okay, if you can just get past the whoppers they are telling. 2010 is a terrible date for a referendum. And everyone knows it.

11:

I remember a time when politicians were not afraid to bear the tidings of bad news and would actually present an argument rather than trying to dodge the issue by lying about it. Those days sadly dissappeared with the advent of Blair and stupid labour.

Sadly the SNP has followed suit. Why lie about the things you outlined above? If people vote in favour of their proposals, based upon their lies, the truth WILL out. What will they do then? Blame it on the Tories? Blame it on Barack Obama? Blame it on Osama Bin Laden? Or will they then actually be honest for once.

Lies, spin etc. We're fed up with Gordon Brown. Please go back up to Scotland.

We want Nigel Farage in Downing Street.

I want Jeremy clarkson in 10 Downing Street, with James May as Chancellor, Richard Hammond as Minister for Transport, ADM Sir Johnathon Band as Defence Secretary, and Shane McGowan as Minister for Health.

However, I'll settle for David Cameron as PM, with a cabinet that he appoints.

the good and maybe the funny thing is that our politicians headed by brown live in cuckoo land.

Still think PM Brown is doing a good job in difficult times.

I am getting tired though of the presidential style of blame government ministers in UK and Scotlands ministers. When ever there is a problem blame the PM.

We do not have a presidential government the PM simply is not that powerful. In fact i tend to think that the President of the USA is not as powerfull as many people believe. After all the USA has many levels of government, just like as the UK and EU.

"Prime Minister confident UK will 'emerge stronger'"

Phew! And there was I worrying that the economy was in the worst state since 1948.

I wonder when one of his first acts of financial genius is going to pay off? Just a little reminder from the Telegraph, Saturday 8 May 1999...

GORDON BROWN was accused last night of trying to take Britain into the European single currency by stealth after surprising the City with an announcement that he was selling more than half of the country's gold reserves, leaving Britain the lowest bullion holdings of any major country.

BTW, it turned out that he sold our gold reserves for $275/oz, gold peaked at more than $1000/oz in March 2008!
