Miller motivated by Smith's faith

KENNY Miller has vowed to use his special relationship with the Rangers management team to help win over sceptical fans.
The former Celtic striker's signing has proved unpopular with a large section of Rangers supporters following his mixed success in previous spells at Ibrox and Parkhead.
But the 28-year-old believes he is reaching the peak of his career, and he is sure manager Walter Smith and assistant Ally McCoist can inspire him to new heights.
Miller scored seven goals in 12 appearances when the pair were in charge of Scotland, revelling in the lone striker role that Rangers used so often last season.
And Miller believes the faith Smith has shown by paying Derby £2million for his services can inspire him to hit new heights.
"They say that strikers hit their peak between 27 and 30 and I hope that will be the case for me," he said.
"I feel that the best place for me to hit my peak is here because of the management team.
"In the national team when Walter Smith came in I felt my game went to a different level.
"I got on really well with him, Ally McCoist and Tommy Burns and it rubbed off on the way I started to play.
"You always want to do well but I had that extra desire because of the faith and belief that was shown in me by these men.
"It seemed to take me to a higher platform and I am hoping to reach another level now that I am working with Walter and Ally again, along with Kenny McDowall and Ian Durrant."
Miller's spell at Celtic, which ended less than a year ago, has not endeared him to the Rangers support and some fans claim he is not good enough to lead the club's attack. But Miller has vowed to win over the doubters whatever their misgivings.
"I didn't have to think about coming back to Rangers," Miller told the Rangers News. "I immediately decided to go and then thought I would deal with the consequences after that.
"If I have people to win over then hopefully I will win them over with the way I play.
"Times have moved on and there are instances of players playing for both sides of a rivalry, but it is still an unusual situation to play for Rangers, play for Celtic and then come back to Rangers again.
"I suppose you are always going to get people against you for one reason or another.
"If they are football reasons then hopefully I can win them over because of what I do on the park and what I bring to the team.
"If there are any other reasons then hopefully these will disappear if I show I am performing every week."
Miller has joined fellow strikers Kyle Lafferty and Andrius Velicka in signing for Rangers this summer from Burnley and Viking Stavanger of Norway respectively, and Smith has now reportedly set his sights on a defender in the form of Watford player Danny Shittu.
Celtic and Sunderland have also been linked with interest in the former QPR centre-back.
