THE eldest daughter of a man who fathered two children by her during a tyrannical reign of incestuous abuse said yesterday that she hoped he would die in jail, after watching him receive a 14-year sentence for his "terrible" crimes.

The 42-year-old, known only as Miss D, was systematically raped from 1979, when she was only 12 years old.

She gave birth to a daughter and later a son after she was raped at various homes in the Dundee area as she grew up.

The woman wa
s 17 when she gave birth to her daughter, who is now 24. The man continued the abuse of his children, and six years later, the same daughter bore him a son, who is now aged 18.

The man's defence solicitor said it was likely the 72-year-old man would die in custody.

After the hearing, Miss D said: "I'm delighted with the sentence, hopefully he will die in jail.

"It is one less paedophile on the streets and one more step to getting my life back together."

She added: "I would like to thank the jury and the judge for the conviction and the sentence.

"I am disappointed he did not show any regret or remorse for his actions and did not acknowledge what he has done to me and my family.

"He has ruined my life and that of so many others and I will never be able to forgive him. I hope he rots."

A jury of seven men and eight women found him guilty of four charges of rape, following an eight-day trial at the High Court in Edinburgh last year.

They were told how the girl's mother had just been taken into hospital to give birth when her father struck for the first time. In a separate interview, Miss D said: "My dad came into the bedroom and he asked me to come into his bed. It was in the early hours of the morning and I thought it was so strange.

"Then he popped me on to the bed and raped me. He told me I was to say nothing to my mum."

Later on the same morning, after her siblings had gone to school, Miss D was again raped by her father.

She added: "Two months later he took me shooting – he had a shotgun and he put me on the ground and he told me that if I told my mum he would shoot me and say it was an accident."

He would rape her at least once a week or every fortnight in an ordeal that was to last until she was 23.

Meanwhile, he had also begun raping her younger sister, who was just eight years old when the abuse began. Her ordeal was to continue until she was 14.

The youngest of the three daughters was abused once, when she was as young as eight years old.

The father forced her to perform a sex act on him and performed a sex act on himself in her presence.

Lady Clark of Calton described the terms of the man's offences as "terrible" and blasted him for his reluctance to admit the impact he had had on his daughters' lives.

She said: "You have been found guilty of very serious criminal charges against your daughters. The charges are terrible in their terms.

"You were in a position of trust and your daughters have suffered terribly over the years.

"I consider that you do not have any real insight into the terrible criminality of your behaviour and the effect on your daughters' lives."

Today's Vote

Was six days an acceptable wait for police to issue an alert about the taxi rapist?
No, women should have been warned straight away
Yes, I’m sure police had a good reason for the delay
Maybe, if they weren’t sure of the details of the crime
