Racing upside down on the high rails of the Tivoli today, I was ruminating that I didn't have as far to fall as the Labour Party had already descended. It is a real "End of the Roman Empire" situation generally, and Robert McNeil is perfectly justified in hitting it with the sharp edge of his word processor. For me, I am not wasting too many words on it, but instead planning for the future in the shape of the post-independence situation. It is coming yet for a' that.

It would be imprudent to wait till the day before starting thinking about Scotland's new political structure. At least one other major political institution has to be up and running by then, to complement and balance the SNP, which looks likely to take over Labour's slot on the centre-left as the three unionist parties disappear down the electoral plug hole. There has to be another, purely Scottish party with a whiff of the centre-right about it to complete the Scottish political spectrum, for the last thing we need is another one-party state by any party. We would appreciate helpful criticism and advice on how we are going about it with the new SDA concept. The website is still under development and general tidying up, but there is sufficient there already to give an idea of the new approach:
