NATO said yesterday that top-level contacts with Russia, frozen due to the Georgia war, would resume next week.
Nato spokesman James Appathurai, speaking after the first meeting between Russia's Nato envoy and the 26 Nato ambassadors since the August conflict, said it had looked to the future.

I can only hope that by "resume contact",they don't mean when our planes tracked their subs.

Dissolve NATO and start a new security organization that encompasses all of Europe and Russia who is also part of Europe and there will be no problems henceforth.

#2 Rob, I wonder how the Chinese would feel about that. Maybe we should invite them in as well. We all might end up fighting world Islam anyway.

#2: The Russian Federation is already an associate member of NATO and plays an active part in NATO's Partnership for Peace and Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council. Russia is also a full member of the 56-member Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which also includes the US and Canada. The OSCE is the world's largest security organisation with 21 ongoing missions - more than NATO, the EU and UN together. It extends right round the northern hemisphere, literally from Vancouver to Vladivostok. So Russia is already comprehensively integrated into the European security structure, and - in contrast to the Soviet period - is also a fully-paid up member of the global economic system.

#6 Long time ago someone called Josef Stalin asked NATO membership for USSR. His application was rejected and Stalin formed Warsaw pact.
OSCE has no troops so participation in OSCE means nothing only bla-bla-bla about nothing. So Rob is absolutely right in #2.
But I like the way brainwashing machine works))) From the article looks like good NATO decided to talk with bed Russia despite the Georgian conflict))) Reality is much more pragmatic and simple. NATO needs Russia as a corridor to supply troops in Afghanistan because the risen by US during the Soviet war in Afghanistan ally (Pakistan) is not ally anymore and delivery by planes is too expensive))) So Russia will ask a lot this time.

I respect Putin for what he's trying to do for Russia, although I don't agree with the attacks on Georgia or the attack and destruction of the facility that was tracking nuclear materials being sent down the corridor into the Middle East through Georgia.

But I'm inclined to agree with both of the above comments, as Russia is in my opinion, being very pragmatic, and playing both hands (China and the US) so as not to be a loser.
It has major contracts and financing with China, in case China is the super-power, Putin will rise with that power, while appearing to agree with America in reference to Iran nukes, and al-queda in case China backs out or is forced out of Africa and the Middle East.
I don't think Putin will ask a lot because he knows he's "burning both end of the candle"

Well well, they've decided to end their little spat and talk again after Georgia invaded South Ossetia, how wonderful.
