SCOTLAND'S mountain rescuers have secured £300,000 government funding for another year.
Fergus Ewing, the minister for community safety, announced the award to the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland, ahead of the UK mountain and cave rescue conference in Stirling today.

The award is a continuation of the level of funding provided to the rescue teams since 2003.

Mr Ewing, himself a former mountain rescue team member, said: "Every year many thousands of Scots and visitors from throughout the world enjoy one of our greatest natural assets – our mountains. However, they can also be dangerous places.

"The Scottish Government is committed to supporting these dedicated, highly professional teams of volunteers."

Each of the 25 rescue teams will receive the same basic funding and the remainder will be shared based on the number of call-outs dealt with over the previous five years.
