THE SCOTSMAN has scored a remarkable triple triumph for its photography.
Our long serving lensman Ian Rutherford won Scotland's top press photography award for a fourth time. He was named the First Scot Rail Press Photographer of the Year at a ceremony in Glasgow's Mitchell Theatre.
His previous Photographer of the Year wins were in 1994, 1997 and 1998. He also collected the award for Picture Essay of the Year.
Another photographer from The Scotsman, Donald MacLeod, was named Features Photographer of the Year, rounding off the three wins. Ken Lennox, chairman of the judges and a former Fleet Street picture editor, said of Mr Rutherford's work: " Ian's images show tremendous range. He's consistent, patient, poetic, observant and a complete perfectionist."
Mr Lennox concluded that Mr Rutherford as a " very worthy winner in a strong category."
Denis Straughan, who received a Lifetime Achievement award and worked with Mr Rutherford at The Scotsman, said: "Ian is one of the best photographers I've ever known."
