PM's plea shows hope is rising in Glenrothes

GORDON Brown has asked all Labour MPs and peers to help the party win the "vital" Glenrothes by-election – and confirmed that he plans to visit the constituency, if the economy allows.
The Prime Minister has written to each of his party's 349 MPs and 213 members of the House of Lords urging them to turn out in Fife in support of the Labour candidate, Lindsay Roy, a local headteacher.
This is a marked departure from the unsuccessful campaign in Glasgow East and suggests Labour believes that it may hold the seat.
A Labour party spokesman said: "In Glasgow East, Margaret Curran was our message. She was a politician. With Lindsay Roy, he is not a politician and it's important we have senior Cabinet ministers out on the campaign trail.
"We are the underdog. The SNP run the council and hold the seat in the Scottish Parliament."
Harry Wills, the Liberal Democrat candidate, welcomed the Prime Minister's decision saying; "I hope to see him out on the doorsteps. It is important for him to see first-hand the damage that his party has done to Fife."
