GORDON Brown has asked all Labour MPs and peers to help the party win the "vital" Glenrothes by-election – and confirmed that he plans to visit the constituency, if the economy allows.
The Prime Minister has written to each of his party's 349 MPs and 213 members of the House of Lords urging them to turn out in Fife in support of the Labour candidate, Lindsay Roy, a local headteacher.

This is a marked departure from the unsuccessful campaign in Glasgow East and suggests Labour believes that it may hold the seat.

A Labour party spokesman said: "In Glasgow East, Margaret Curran was our message. She was a politician. With Lindsay Roy, he is not a politician and it's important we have senior Cabinet ministers out on the campaign trail.

"We are the underdog. The SNP run the council and hold the seat in the Scottish Parliament."

Harry Wills, the Liberal Democrat candidate, welcomed the Prime Minister's decision saying; "I hope to see him out on the doorsteps. It is important for him to see first-hand the damage that his party has done to Fife."

the people of Glenrothes will be so scunnered listening to this lot by the end of the canvassing that Labour will have shot themselves in the foot - AGAIN!

"suggest labour believes it may hold the seat"

First, it's "might" not "may" - basic grammar!

Second, who exactly is "suggesting" this? Speech writer lingo through and through.

Glenrothes. The Prime Minister has written to each of his party's......urging them to turn out in Fife.
This is a marked departure from the unsuccessful campaign in Glasgow East.

Glasgow East.Every Labour MPs will be ordered to campaign in Glasgow East amid mounting panic that the party could lose the by-election in the constituency this month.
Party whips are launching an extraordinary operation to ensure that every minister and backbencher hits the streets on the tough estates of Easterhouse to try to stave off the threat from the Scottish National party (SNP).

My oh my, all labour MP's and Lords heading for Glenrothes, what a lucky town you are,I bet you are all suitably impressed with this attention......NOT!!

And as far as "if the economy allows" bit Gordon, I wouldn't worry your little brain on that score I'm sure the Economy will improve when you are not at the helm!! WHAT A PRAT!!!!!!

It would be fun to see all of the Lumpen MPs trying to find Fife on the map. Will Broon hire a private jet, or will he parachute them in with Nazi helmets??

Does good news in this instance mean Labour might scrape through in a seat they considered safe? Will ordinary voters -by that I mean those not obsessed with politics- care that for a moment Brown is looking less incompetent?
This is a by-election and the normal by-election rules apply - there are none.

Okay i get it now, winning the Glenrothes by-election is all about the future of Gordon Brown and not about the future of the people who live in the constituency!! what a shame...!!!

Now Labour say that they are underdogs in this by-election, well okay a few months back i would have agreed but now that Gordon has saved the UK and the worlds economy ....wouldn't it be funny if he lost this by-election?? oh bring it on ...

illegal wars, corruption at every level of the liebour sleaze and corruption party, cash for honours, wee wendys bungs, peter hains bungs, bungs for liebour in general, giving scotlands lottery money to the olympics,no vote on europe, 10p tax ,that is enough to be going on with, and should be enough for the voters to have a clear picture of comrade broons policy failures and the eejit expects to win in glenrothes

And people of Glenrothes are already hoarding eggs in anticipation.

Helpful Hit
By storing eggs somewhere warm like on top of the Fridge, it will ensure that they will go rotten within a week.

Let me get this right - "a Labour spokesman said Margaret Curran was a politician whereas Lindsay Roy isn't".
The past tense for Ms Curran is perfectly understandable but I am surprised to hear them say Roy is totally useless before he even loses. Can't they wait till after the funeral ?
And if he isn't a politician why isn't he getting on with running his school ? Curiouser and curiouser...

#12 Spook

After the announcement of the plan to Nationalize the Banks, the Commons Bar was full of Scottish Labour MP's all slapping each other on the back and celebrating like Scotland had won the World Cup.

The Prime Minister who has a distaste for public shows of emotion was happily sitting alone in Downing Street. Attired in an "I Saved The World" T-Shirt and Butchers Apron Underpants, he was busy adding a New Chapter to his memoirs while sipping Bolinger.

If he was able to win the bye election, he just might start to believe his own spin. He might even be so full of confidence he might call a General Election.

So if, like me, you think that the sooner Gordon is made redundant the better, if anyone from a poling agency calls just repeat the following " Gordon Brown Saved The World And I'M Voting Labour." If enough of us do it we might just trick into calling a General Election.

......."and confirmed that he plans to visit the constituency, if the economy allows"......

I assume he means "If, by then, the cost of living has not increased so much that I cannot afford the rail fare/petrol/flight/hotel room to visit Glenrothes"!

If the economy allows......? Jeez what a, what a...what a....I dunno if I can say what I think here!
How cany anyone be so big headed as to assume that 24-48 hours without them "in the office" will be a problem? Telphones do worth in Gelnrothes...i imagine they even have mobile 'phone coverage. So, Gordy, go for it. Show your face to your adoring minions!

Kent once sent Labour MP's to Parliament, then prosperity increased and the little englanders took over. Result Thatcherism.

The labour party until Blair was unable to cope with little englanders. To date it looks like the current Labour party can not cope with little scotlanders. After all what good is international success when all some people care about is parking rights or a five minute delay over a bridge to work.

This will be an interesting test for intellectual Scotland still active in the world, verse nationalist Scotland. Almost little scotland verse Big Scotland.

So Broon offers UK tax payers cash as a lending backdrop to a couple of banks by way of kick starting the lending that goes on between banks.

The conditions attached are that there is a board room clear out and every time the banks use the cash, they are charged a fee (a win win sitaution for us).

This simple process has turned into A)a bank buyout (which it isn't) and B) proof independence couldn't work due to two Scottish banks being "bailed out".

These banks are simply not Scottish. The RBS is the 2nd biggest in the UK and Europe and 5th in the World. It is a global institution. It just happened to have headquarters in Scotland.

Given thier size and wealth in the UK, the "English tax payers" are NOT bailing out Scotland but are in fact bailing themselves out too as well as many other than bank with the RBS and RBS owned banks accross the globe.

However, Broon is happy to allow the media deception to carry on.

I do hope the good folks of Glenrothes send a powerful message to Labour and vote anybody buy Labour for thier smoke, mirrors, lies and deception. The media portrayal of Broon being a saviour is sickening anf wrong.

He has offered the money, not given. He has not bought a majority share, but acted as a gaurantor with OUR money. The taxpayer in NOT a shareholder as the money has to be paid back.

LIES, LIES and MORE LIES!

Sarah brown is going campaigning?! - maybe she can crack the kids out too?

- people are loosing their jobs and their homes, tax is rising, bills are rocketing... but it's ok, Sarah F**king brown's around.

(p.s. #25 - We're 'investing' into the banks more money that their entire stock market value and getting on average a 25% share... is that not a bail out? We are effectively we're paying a price 4 times then speculators and traders - we will, I'm sure get some back - but not all).
