A SCOTS football hero is to be honoured in the Fife village where he was born.
Billy Liddell, who starred for Liverpool and Scotland in the 1940s and 1950s, will have a new sports complex in Townhill, near Dunfermline, named after him. The move follows discussions between Fife Council and the Billy Liddell Memorial Campaign, which has been trying to establish a lasting tribute to the footballer.

Welcome news for any follower of Scots international football of yesteryear. Billy Liddell was a real star for Liverpool, and especially for country. A winger in the great tradition that spwawned the likes of Willie Johnston and the irreplaceable Jimmy Johnstone.

We hear the word "legend" bandied about a lot, often undeservedly. Billy Liddell deserved that accolade absolutely. I hope Fife Council will follow up this event with the publicity to inform generations unaware of this magnificent footballer.
