JACK McConnell, the former first minister, has called for MSPs to be given a free vote on whether or not to bar Wendy Alexander from Holyrood.
Members of the Scottish Parliament will vote tomorrow on whether to ban her from Holyrood for one day for failing to promptly declare donations to her Labour leadership campaign.

Mr McConnell, whom Ms Alexander succeeded as Scottish Labour leader last year, said MSPs should be given a free vote. "There's a lot of talk about parties voting en bloc for or against the standards committee report, but I believe very strongly that every individual member should make up their own mind on issues like this," he said.

"It's very, very important that the standards committee and the standards system in the parliament remain free from party politics."

In June, the standards committee ruled Ms Alexander had broken the rules by failing to register donations to her campaign within the required 30 days. The ban was agreed by one vote: the SNP and Lib Dems voted in favour, while Labour and the Tories abstained.

Two days later, Ms Alexander resigned as Labour's leader at Holyrood.

There is a Scottish Labour Party ?

Not according to Bean in Westminster.

Anyway who honestly expects MSPs to do anything other than vote like droids as their masters tell them ?

Having been found guilty by her peers on the standards committee, Wendy resigned; this fact will not go away, now we see calls now being made to pressurise the MSP’s to scrap her sentence with the usual fear actions.
It could be you next, say’s Jack Flash in front of that committee, how would you feel about there being a whip on your sentence? As is usual Jack forgot that you have to be guilty to receive a sentence in the first place, ah well Jack should know how Wendy feels. Was it not 3 times Jack you de-neighed all knowledge, sorry Jack please leave the stage quietly, in the event the tumbrel might put in an appearance and you may loose your head instead.

He REALLY doesn't like her does he?

Heh, heh.

The call Jack is making here is correct but he's not exactly making it for the right reason is he?

Heh, heh.

Members of the Scottish Parliament will vote tomorrow on whether to ban her from Holyrood for one day...

At this stage, why would Wendy care which way the vote goes? If I was her, I'd be happy to stay away from the parliament for a day! Sat at home, feet up, read the papers...

McFlannel has absolutely nothing to say about Scotland, the economy, her people, industry/commerce, society, jobless, poverty, the future, his 'vision' (i.e. none) etc etc, as this article demonstrates 'very clearly'. Only thing on his mind like all other New Lab MSP's is internal party strife and their positions at the trough. He will always be remenbered for one thing - that daft mini kilt.

Mr. Lachie Todd,

Why does the Labour Party in Scotland insist in flogging a dead horse?

The former leader Ms. Alexander clearly failed to adhere to parliamentary rules and that is why she was forced to resign.

This attempt by the former leader of the Scottish Parliamentary Group to somehow exonerate Ms. Alexander will anger voters, including many from the Labour Party!

This will only serve to remind voters of the sad, sorry affair, especially with a Westminster by-election coming up. Does the Labour Party have a death wish?

Instead of acquiescing in this whitewash, Ms. Alexander should accept her suspension gracefully and then return and get on with her job: of representing the people of Paisley North.
12

The Former Mr. Angry,

Perth 03/09/2008 09:59:16
Alexander continues to provide a source of time-wasting and argument in parliament when she should accept her punishment and move on. She was caught red-handed and is still determined (and her Labour cohorts) to plead innocence. A bad lot and we'll be well shot of them. Roll on the by-election - not the same government I know but it'll hasten the demise north and south of the border.

Continuing to back Wendy is doing labour no favours. It needs to clean itself up from the associated corruption over the last few yrs. Unless you admit your mistake noone will believe it has come to terms with its wrongdoing.

Clearly the news hasn't caught up with Jack the Genius. Wendy Alexander is DONE LIKE A DINNER!!!
Deader than a Norwegian Blue parrot.
Lady "Bring It On" got brought down by her Westminster bosses. The Fat Lady has already sang her song.
She told a porkie pie when she filled out her donations forms. And she got rumbled.
So make a nice pot of tea (fair trade, of course) put you feet up and get caught up on some daytime tellie.
It's one day off fer gawd's sake.
The time hardly fits the crime.
17

The Master,

03/09/2008 13:22:24
The mock indignation of all you Nats is just pathetic to behold. Everyone knows that the Nats on the standards committee overplayed their hand in voting for the humiliating suspension which deprived them of the Labour leader they just loved to insist was such an asset to the nationalist cause.

If you really think that Wendy's bungling constitutes deep rooted corruption and sleaze then I can only say that you ought to look beyond Scotland and your parochial separation agenda once in a while.

For the benefit of those who missed them my two earlier posts were in the vein:

The former Firts Minister and national Joke gets punished for being a total incompetent by being sent to Malawi whereas Wendy Alexander was party to a criminal offence and she gets censured.

In my second post I took #17 to task for being somewhat euphemistic in his use of the term "bungling" in relation to Wendy's dodgy donations, and had the temerity to suggest that he was the one suffering the bout of indignation!

Nice looking girl you've got, btw. A match for mine, although she's a Kenyan and so has a distinctive look.

Good question and it is a question that i am asked often on my football website.

Hariot Watt Uni and Edinburgh uni have a team participating in the EOSL like you say http://www.hwufc.org.uk/ but both universities also have teams which play in the British university soccer league (Busa) which is an inter Varsity league between the Uni,s. see link http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/Kader-is-the--head.3898141.jp

Now it is the University (Busa) club which i play for not the senior Heriot Watt clubs as that would indeed be in direct conflict with Spartans, i hope you can follow my slavering lol.

Off topic again of course, but years ago I knew a little girl whose name was Senga and I thought it was because her father was a Swedish merchant navy type. Turns out it was partly true( AGNES in reverse), but when in Sweden she tended to be known as Senga.

A few years later I met another "Senga" but I had already established she was a Scot, and I said to her Ah yes Agnes spelled backwards !

She replied Oh So it is! I never realised that before!

Her name was Senga, and she had no connection with Sweden or anywhere else as far as I could tell.

Ive come to this conclusion.
If I think that I understand something
I LOOK AGAIN!

It cannot be so simple, that I can understand it surely !

lol, hey Morris sometimes the most simple things in life are the most complicated. I think Senga was a fashion icon in the now defunct soap
" High road", if my outstanding knowledge of Scottish programs is correct then Senga was the fictitious wife of Andy Cameron in High Road.

Lovely name senga but would never use it in public though.

What a waste of public time and money debating whether or not she should be banned--for a whole day--and having a vote on it.

I mean, who bl00dy cares now? She's resigned. Let it rest there. To carry on with this would be a criminal waste of time and money and would show the politicians who participate in it up for the mindless idiots they are.

If they insist on wasting their time in this way, then I will have more respect for the politicians who manage to find themselves some "more pressing matters to attend to" whilst the other morons go on arguing about how someone who has resigned has to be retrospectively "punished".

Interesting 5 o clock News!

Labour have denied that there is any Blairite plot to remove Brown. What does that mean I wonder?

I was unaware of any plot/rumoured or otherwise to remove anybody, and Blair, who hung on as long as he wanted, was from the same mould as far as I can see? What is a Blairite plot anyway? Bliar has long gone and Bean (bliar MkII) is in charge now.

Opposition parties have declared LIT unworkable.Well it will be if you make it so yes.

Inland Revenue have said it was perfectly simple to amend the programme to take a seperate Scottish element into account when this was first mooted years ago.
Why is it unworkable now?

The Lib Dems want an even more complex version(but God knows why)and they are a Unionist party.

Maybe its so they can make it unworkable?

Porkies would seem the the only item on the menu these days!

In the event that the body corporate decides not to exclude Wendy, this would somewhat call into question the ability of Politicians in Scotland to Police themselves and should lead to calls for a completely independent and public form of regulation of our MSPs behaviour.
