THE QC who claimed he was switching his support from Lab-our to Tories was not a fee-paying party member when he made his comments, it has emerged.
Leading Labour members have dismissed the declaration by Paul McBride, who said he was switching his lifelong support for Labour to the Conservatives because David Cameron's party was the only one serious about saving the legal system.

Labour Lothians MSP Lord George Foulkes said: "Strangely, I cannot recall ever seeing a Paul McBride at any Labour Party event over the past two decades, and neither can the many other members I have spoken to.

"To allay my suspicion, perhaps Mr McBride could confirm which constituency party he is resigning from."

Last night, Mr McBride said: "I was a member (of the Labour Party] during the 1990s and supported the party from my youth.

"I let my membership slip in terms of paying fees but attended almost all of the Scottish Labour Party fund-raising events right through the Blair era to the bitter end.

"I was a Labour supporter for more than 30 years."

Well, there you go. A worthwhile Labour supporter. He doesn't actually say when he "let his membership slip in terms of paying fees...", but it looks like that was when Blair was still in power. He was a Labour party member in the 90's, but not since 2000 onwards??

I'm sure the Tories will welcome him with open arms and notice that membership fees are paid in advance.

Your right #1
Another self serving unionist rat leaving the sinking ship and trying to align himself with the party who will be in power at Westminster.

Do you have to be a fee paying member to support a party? I never knew that. I support Celtic/Rangers/Partick Thistle/Inverness Calie/Livingston etc but I'm not a member of their fan club or indeed pay to go see them play (or see them play at all).

I alos support scotland, in whatever sporting context but I'm not a member of the Tartan Army or SRU etc etc. Does that mean I'm NOT a supporter? Or enttiled to support?

BTW, Lord Fulks has done himself or the lie-bore party any favours with his aggressive and confrontational statement about McBride. I take it his tactic now is to bully and intimidate people into supporting lie-bore?

I am concerned that the hootsman actually ran such a negative piece about the lie-bore party.

... If you are unhappy with Brown and Labour's performance (and who wouldn't be?) vote in this Downing Street e-petition calling for his resignation - http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/please-go/ or go the extra mile and support the call for a General Election - http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/GoToCountryNow/

We badly need a change of government and we need it NOW!

SOS reported that McBride 'is understood to have agreed to advise the Conservatives on justice matters and will speak at their conference next month'.

How refreshing that such an eminent young man should take so principled and altruistic a stance with not a thought for his own advancement.

What a wonderful change from all the sleaze and selfish personal ambition that so characterises public life today.

Well said, Tory boy!

What we need as we face the worst recession since the 1930s is to be ruled by a bunch of coke snorting, aristocratic, Bullingden club toffs.

They'll soon sort out the plebs, don't you worry.

Vote for Dave, you know it makes sense!

14. Wake up Steve. It's all the work of the same many handled idiot. He's been banned many times from here, but is very determined. No matter, the SNP are finished already. He can keep doing this till domesday, it won't make any difference.

So let's get this straight, some QC who claims to have been a member of the Labour party in the 1990's, is now a member of the Tory party, why should I care? Why should anyone care? Yet he claims to have 'let his flees slip'. So he was not actually a member of ANY political party at that time? Do the Tories ever expect this guy will pay their membership? Sounds like he's been riding on other people's paid-up coat-tails for years. What an absolute pillock whatever party he claims to support.

4. Is that the same Majority of Scotland, who always votes against the SNP? If not what planet are you on?

re post 9 switch is to do with the fact that this eminent principled and altruistic young man takes this stance with not a thought for his own advancement and has not been promised a position in the conservative government when they win the next election as the Attorney General or Solicitor General law officer position in England
